100 Meters is now on Netflix. It’s not your typical sports anime. It’s a good look at how/why we pursue passions, how it gives us meaning & also can completely emotionally wreck. It really hits hard. Definitely work checking out. Watch it with friends, you will have much to talk about afterwards.

Hell yeah! Always welcome more implementations in functional programming languages. Need to make the ATProto ecosystem more polyglot than just the usual Typescript, Go, and sometimes Rust.
I think this is far enough along to post about now

pegasus, a pds implementation in ocaml, ~feature parity with the bluesky pds (minus app passwords because those are gross)

repo includes various other atproto-relevant libraries in ocaml for interested sickos

Bless everyone who maintains the tools to download video files from proprietary players.
Multiple social media users noticed on Monday that the 60 Minutes episode was available via the Global TV app. To view the episode, viewers need to connect to the app from a Canadian IP address.

People then uploaded copies of the episode to a variety of file sharing sites and services.

It's become completely acceptable to be openly racist towards Arabs/Muslims/Latinx with no repercussions. Tech and VC companies and their partners have amassed so much power that they do not believe there are any consequences to their actions or the systems they provide which bolster this racism.
In the wake of the tragedy at Brown, online conspiracists rushed to pin the horrific mass murder on an innocent Palestinian student. One of them was Shaun Maguire, a partner at leading VC firm Sequoia Capital.

Sequoia's Shaun Maguire accused an innocent Palestinian of being the Brown shooter. Then he doubled down
Online sleuthing is not, it turns out, among the noted VC's talents.

US Dems including Biden rallying behind the TikTok ban cuz they thought xenophobia and national security hawkishness was "good politics" was arguably the most embarrassing unforced error of any Democratic administration in recent history.
The US TikTok sale has been signed. The company will be controlled by a joint venture including Oracle, Silver Lake, Andreessen Horowitz, Abu Dhabi-based MGX. Adding a UAE company really makes it clear that this was never about national security concerns.

Scoop: TikTok signs deal for sale of U.S. unit after yearslong saga
The deal would end a yearslong saga to force TikTok's Chinese parent ByteDance to sell the company's U.S. operation.

again thinking of when The Free Press ran an article alleging that George Floyd was not killed by the cops, and @radleybalko.bsky.social proved beyond any question that the article was bullshit, and instead of retracting it Weiss asked him to come on her podcast
CNN has a show with a similar line. That the problem with this country is we just aren’t talking to each other.

It’s the kind of diagnosis that a toddler would land on.

And finally, the assault on Section 230. This is the endgame for independent speech.

If you repeal 230, you don’t hurt Google or Meta—they have the lawyers to survive. You destroy the small forums, the independent blogs, the dissenters. You make the cost of speaking the truth too high to bear.
How Democrats’ Attack On Section 230 Plays Right Into Trump’s Censorial Plans
Like clockwork, lawmakers are once again rallying around the idea of eliminating Section 230. That Republicans are leading this charge is hardly surprising—repealing Section 230 is explicitly laid …

There’s a specific mechanism in authoritarian movements that we’re seeing play out in real-time across American media and tech. It’s a simple rule: "If we cannot co-opt it, we must destroy it."

It is the logic of "scorched earth." It's the logic of the Nero Decree and it's happening right now. 🧵

It's important that we build more data centers, spiking electricity costs and polluting our communities, because we need rich guys to create bot farms of AI slop to sell us gadgets that don't work. It's simple, really. This is the AI revolution.
Social media companies attempt to detect and remove this type of astroturfing for violating their inauthentic behavior policies, which is why Doublespeed uses a bank of phones to emulate the behavior of real users.

This line got me:
"A doctor called in a poison control specialist for an expert opinion because they’d never seen such a young person pepper sprayed, Veraza said. They advised bringing the child to a specialist for follow-up visits to gauge potential long term damage to the child’s lungs and eyes."
ICE sprayed a one-year-old in the face with pepper spray.

The child and parents are US citizens, but that doesn't even matter.

These monsters pepper-sprayed a baby.

We cannot allow ICE to continue this behavior, and they aren't going to reform themselves.

• reverse all federal records gender markers
• sue a future gov’t for attempting to rescind trump’s anti-trans exec orders
