Change of pace: I'll be back behind the DJ music machines for your MLK weekend at the Gold Bar Distillery in San Francisco, CA Sunday Jan 18th 4PM-8PM. It's the only place I DJ and it's just me for 4 hours straight playing modern soul, funk, and deep house with amazing(!) views of the bay. C-ya!
I guess after collecting music for 15+ years it stands to reason I have some neat House bootlegs of stuff I forgot about and you can't really find anywhere.

this is all to say that should democrats win the house and senate this november, they should hold similarly dramatic — which is to say televised and highly publicized — hearings on the conduct of ICE and CBP, with testimony from victims. we want as much of *this* as possible in the record. (3/?)
ICE detained Arlit Maria Martinez on her way to work. 2 days later, her 15 yo son died of cancer. They wouldn't let her out to say goodbye. The family had planned to move back to Mexico prior to the cancer diagnosis but stayed for his treatment. Now, Mr Martinez has lost his wife to ICE & his son.
Teen dies of cancer days after mother arrested by ICE: ‘She’s never gonna see him’
The mother's family pleaded with federal officers for her release from custody to say her final goodbyes to her son, but their requests went unanswered.

On the contrary, I think the pictures of "green monkeys" on the loose are real. One of them even shot someone.

If the DEA had killed 80 innocent Americans in the course of apprehending one drug dealer, there would be riots. But we are so ghoulishly indifferent to the lives and humanity of people abroad that it's barely even part of the conversation.
A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

Two things can be true:

Maduro is a vile despot who stole the election & has caused unimaginable harm & trauma to Venezuelans, including economic collapse & mass migration.

Trump’s invasion of Venezuela has nothing to do with helping Venezuelans & everything to do with Trump’s own power.

Regrettably, there is far too much historical precedent behind colonial resource extraction to assume this would be hyperbole.
We will either end fossil fuel dependency and the predatory extractivist basis of global production, or they will end us through wars and ecological collapse - all at the same time.

About 95% of California’s old-growth redwoods have been logged, leaving younger, less diverse forests.

A pilot project is restoring canopy fern mats — key habitat high in the trees — and scientists say these mats also buffer heat, helping salmon, birds and other species adapt to warming.
