Bluesky suspended Sarah Kendzior today for no reason whatsoever. She just shared excerpts of her articles, which were as always incisive and not offensive at all. Hey @pfrazee.com this is super not OK. I know her- we've interacted a fair bit via chats and her work is essential.

I truly believe among those who dive into learning there are two general types: the Doers and the Thinkers. Doers approach knowledge as either a lever to achieve things or a new fulcrum through which levers can be applied. Thinkers simply want to know, disinterested in what it is "for" altogether.

A lot of Thinkers spend their lives being told they're approaching things wrong for not spending their spare moments finding something to apply their knowledge to. A lot of Doers battle a sense of inadequacy as scholars because they're repeatedly told the knowledge alone should be enough for them.

I tell younger folks all the time: Do not worry about losing the respect or presence of people who can't or won't accept you doing things that bring you joy. The only relationship you are guaranteed will last until you die is the one you have with yourself. Don't let yourself down.
One thing people kind of tell you, but not really, about middle age:

One day you'll be like "oh [thing] looks fun but people will think I'm a loser" about a thing

And then you'll say. Wait a second.

Fuck 'em

"Prominently platforming a vibes-based argument that the excess of power unreasonably wielded by women has warped the nation’s institutions and should prompt a reconsideration of their civil rights, while their civil rights are being stripped away, is indefensible."
Did women ruin the workplace? No! Did I personally ruin my own weekend writing about the cynical fuckery that led to the New York Times asking that question? I sure did!

Huge thanks to @moiradonegan.bsky.social for lending her expertise and insight to my ranting
Women didn’t ruin the workplace. Capitalism did
When your debate centers on whether women should exist in public, you’ve already lost.

I loved this conversation with Andi, and tried to get at something important that I think has been lost: feminism is a discrete ideology, and has a more specific meaning than “anything any woman ever says about gender.”

if you are food insecure for both the humans and pets in your household there is a tool called Pet Help Finder that can help locate pet food banks nearby and other free or reduced price assistance and supplies for pets.
no one, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE, should have to give up their pet bc of this.

One of my friends who is visiting lives in Albany Park in Chicago and listening to her talk about what’s been going on and watching her cry and feel helpless…

She was a union organizer. She’s used to organizing in less than ideal conditions. She’s not brand new.

She’s horrified and traumatized.

My sister and brother in law live in Rogers Park and the community is trying to resist ICE by using whistles to warn folks if they spot agents. They said it's haunting hearing a whistle outside and knowing someone is likely about to be abducted

Anyway, AI doesn’t have any value for me in anything I do. I understand this says something about *what* I do. But also? It’s only practically existed for maybe 18 months. I loved and worked almost 45 years without it so yeah, I’m cool.

This reminds me: A few CBP agents were recently overheard complaining about how much they *hate* the whistles. Apparently, in addition to the obvious, the racket makes it harder for them to communicate with each other.
Listening to CPD radio traffic from something last month and can hear the whistles in the background.

People often push the disabled to take risks with our health.

They think if it’s already “that bad” who cares if it gets worse

We care.

Our baselines mean everything to us.

Whatever limited function we have left is always worth protecting.

You don’t get it until you get it.

It’s almost like if people tell you that to win you have to turn your back on poor people, or Muslims, or trans people, or immigrants, you can just say, “no, that’s immoral, we’re not doing that,” and keep doing good old fashioned organizing and campaigning and things will be ok

As racist responses to Mamdani's win emerge on social platforms, consider not sharing the actual posts.

Our Muslim siblings don't need to see that bullshit every time they scroll, & we can just call out the people saying those things as racist fools, & stay focused on our joy over his win 🥰
