“L.A. Green Book Collages”

This series documents and reinterprets the historical relevance of locations in Los Angeles that were featured in the Green Book, a guide published during segregation that listed safe locations that Black people could visit while traveling.
I’ve had a wild week but managed to create a couple of interesting compositions.

This is cool! Love all the easter eggs from Bad Bunny’s performance, and my favorite, not LA-related, was Lady Gaga.
Much to everyone's surprise, L.A. played a big part in the Super Bowl. The co-owner of empanadería Fuegos LA designed Benito's casita, the couple who got married are residents of the San Gabriel Valley, and more.

I remember learning about Hotel Dunbar in Los Angeles in a college urban studies course! Located along LA’s Historic Central Avenue Jazz Corridor, it is famed for hosting legendary performers such as Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie!🎙️🎶🎺

Horrifying.
Even more horrifying when you contemplate this number includes children.

Fascism & neoliberalism make terrible bedfellows
This is one way in which 2020s US fascism differs from that of 1930s Germany.

Fascism is now not just an ideology; it’s big business too.
"The United States now holds 73,000 mostly non-white people in for-profit concentration camps around the country, with even more detained in foreign camps and paid by US federal taxes."

American taxpayers are funding an international human kidnapping and trafficking ring, led by Stephen Miller.

I still think it’s insane how many people I talk to think there’s going to be a regular, normal election in November, let alone 2028.

I kicked off Black History Month in Corona at the home of Louis Armstrong, who lived in our city for more than 30 years. Walking through his house and hearing how much New York meant to him was a powerful reminder of what this city owes to Black artists and culture.
