Golly, it’s almost as if Preller, who has now hired THREE first time MLB managers during his tenure, and one cast-off that no one was interviewing (Shildt), really sees no value in the position. Bob Melvin has been the only “traditional” hire to date, and Preller basically broke him.

I could see is the Padres firing Preller and bringing in Loretta as GM. The budget situation makes it nearly impossible to do crazy things. Preller’s approach of selling the farm for a couple of rentals has played out over 10 years and not produced progress, so I think they vibe for a season or two.
