This is a really big deal both in politics and just modern cultural discourse than I think it gets credit for. People literally need something to believe in.
In trauma informed teaching, we talk about how important it is to match content about harm with content about resilience, humanity, and joy. When I took over the course I teach on Complexities of Urban Schooling, it was depressing AF. Now it's a seminar on critical hope building through solutions.
I don’t mean this like, I’m a white guy and I’m being made to feel complicit in the ways that the world is bad and that makes me feel bad and I’m rebelling against that. I just meant that they were all about how the world is bad.
