Just a gramma who sews and writes. Author of SUNSHINE GIRL, Heliotrope Books, 2025.
The Portland writing community lost the kindest connector ever this week. Steve Arndt, you were always for us, and you'll always be with us.

Steve Arndt, ambassador of Portland’s literary community, dies at age 77 • Oregon ArtsWatch
Arndt, who was at work on his own long novel, was also a great connecter who bound other writers warmly together: "a provider, a nurturer, a guardian angel."

Hugh Laurie used the word "inveigle" in an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert a while back and I don't know if I'll ever be the same. Inveigle inveigle inveigle. Gosh I love learning new words.

I loved the centering of Latin culture in Bad Bunny's halftime performance. "Debí tirar más fotos" when I lived in Puerto Rico with my family of origin in the late 1960s (I should have taken more photos). Also, the word "reggaeton" is super cool.

"Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?" is the overarching question of our times.

Black History Month is a time to recognize the lived, shared experience of all Black folks who have fundamentally shaped, challenged, and ultimately strengthened America. It’s about taking an unvarnished look at the past so that we can create a better future.

The draconian cuts at the Washington Post could be called committing suicide by a once-great journalism institution that deserved trust and respect. But I think it should be seen as the owner of the Washington Post committing murder in service to Donald J. Trump.

Reminder: In midst of Jeffrey Epstein's child sex ring, Donald Trump said this about Epstein to media: “I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with." Trump added, "It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”
