Joanne Carducci, aka @jojofromjerz.bsky.social, says it plain: "... we shouldn’t have to cut a deal with political arsonists just to keep people fed. We shouldn’t have to act civil while the country has a gun to its head and the shooter says, 'Let us kill your healthcare or we’ll starve your kids.'"

Robin Snyder on Senate shutdown vote: "Republicans don’t want to 'negotiate' jack shit; they want to jam whatever they hell they want down your throat. Also, way to give Republicans back all the momentum less than a week after historic D victories which represented a total rebuke of MAGA."

C'mon now ... he hasn't had time to consider it. 🤨
What will Mike Johnson's new excuse be for not swearing in Grijalva?

Appreciated the analysis this morning re: Ketanji Brown Jackson's ruling. I'm all for understanding. But Bree is right. This is nutso.
this is really my problem. if we have a system where someone we mostly trust to be decent has to make the decision to starve people a little bit for a day or two just to make it so it's harder for her coworkers to starve people a lot more for longer...

what are we even doing here?
I appreciate the legal reporters explaining the likely reasoning behind the SNAP ruling but also rube goldberg-ing our way to maybe possibly giving food to hungry kids is pretty damning in itself

We go to sleep in a better country than we woke up in. Thank you to everyone who worked for these coast-to-coast victories, for this utter repudiation of Trumpism, for economic justice and a country for all of us, not for white supremacy.

California voters sent a strong anti-Donald Trump message on Tuesday by passing Proposition 50, another big win for Democrats during the 2025 off-year election.
Rebuking Trump, California passed Prop 50 to redistrict in favor of Democrats
Prop. 50 is a constitutional amendment that would allow the nation’s most populous state to temporarily stop using a nonpartisan commission to draw congressional district boundaries.

It's been 40 days since Adelita Grijalva was elected by the people of Arizona's seventh congressional district to represent them in Congress.

Mike Johnson still refuses to swear her in.

Probably just a coincidence, but SNAP benefits end for 42 million Americans tomorrow, on the Day of the Dead.

The top three things Jesus was on about were feeding the hungry, healing the sick, and welcoming the stranger. Rich men have convinced so-called Christians to starve the hungry, gut health care, and deport the stranger to enrich themselves. It’s astoundingly anti-Christ.

Enormous news for US literature. A new, Mellon-led, $50 million fund for nonprofit literary orgs and publishers. Closest thing we've ever had to it was Mellon and Wallace in 1991, which, in today's dollars, was still less than half this. Open call begins Nov 10. literaryartsfund.org/about/
