For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

Gov. Walz to MS NOW:

"Two days ago it was Elissa Slotkin. Last week it was Jerome Powell. Before that, Mark Kelly. Weaponizing the justice system … is a dangerous, authoritarian tactic.

"The only person not being investigated for the shooting of Renee Good is the federal agent who shot her."

What all this meant is that these schools bet everything on new buildings attracting new students, which meant that even small dips enrollment led to their budgets being swallowed by debt service and became existential threats quickly. This is from 2022:

I have a lot of thoughts about the outrageous invasion of Minneapolis by trumped-up semi-cops, some of them political, others personal. More at the Treehouse Writers blog. treehousewriters.com/wp53/2026/01...

Excellent piece on the problem with the California Public Utilities Commission.
Especially stoked to do this with COYOTE, working with the great @emmaruthless.bsky.social and again with @nuala.bsky.social. Give it a read and support COYOTE!!
At home in the dark during SF’s massive blackout last month, as journalist @idamoj.bsky.social scrambled to save food, she also wondered how we got here.

It’s too simple to cast PG&E as the only villain, she argues: Why aren’t we talking about the CPUC? www.coyotemedia.org/in-the-dark-...

This is surreal. 4 Oglala Lakota men kidnapped by ICE in Minneapolis have finally been located. One of them was released but the other 3 are being held at Fort Snelling, a former concentration camp used to imprison Native people incl. the Dakota 38 during Dakota Wars.
