If you have to accept that greed is human nature and we should organise around it, you also have to accept that people begging for food wanting to set fire to trillionaires is also human nature.

I'm so far away from my emotions. Every finger press n flick brings horrors and rage so large, I have to do relaxation rituals on myself. I have to lose touch with myself and emotions. There's just no way to survive. Read a book? Horrors and rage in them. Walk outside? I like that...

Far more dangerous than Trump, I think, is how quickly the last eight months have pulled back the curtain on America's elites and shown everyone how venal, how cowardly and how utterly mediocre the foundation of our society has been.

If a Republican president talks about punching people in the mouth, you’re the violent one for thinking he was being serious.

A look at the new crop of Mamdani imitators who are trying to copy his style, but don't have his substance.
Rather than offering a real alternative to the status quo, this crop of candidates is repackaging the boring, moderate politics of the Democratic establishment with inauthentic videos and forced rhetoric.
Beware the Centrist Dweebs Trying to Ape Zohran Mamdani
All over the country, young Democratic candidates are running seemingly Mamdani-style campaigns. But check the fine print.

8. And this is no less true of Roe, Heller, Citizens United, Loperbright or Dobbs. None of those decisions came from some infallible temple of law. They came from fallible people, voting based on their “prejudices, passions, errors of opinion, local interests, and selfish views”.

5. Aren’t we better off to simply acknowledge that ALL THREE branches of government are filled with people who are doing their best with a finite bag of skills? That they get it wrong no more or less often than any of the rest of us do, and that the protection comes from Constitutional checks?

9. The promise of democracy is that it will fix mistakes. The threat of autocracy is that it sets those mistakes in stone. And we would all be better off with a SCOTUS that embraced the former rather than praising the latter. /fin

Many weird American constitutional outliers are hurting us:
* Strong bicameralism
* Presidential veto over legislation
* Strong judicial review
* Extreme legislative malapportionment
* Distortion of presidential elections by the Electoral College
* High threshold for impeachment
We are a massive global outlier & our institutions are not fit for purpose.
He's right, and it's not just Brazil.

Around the world, at least 31 democratic leaders who committed similar crimes have been jailed or banned from office since 2010. The failure to hold Trump accountable in the US was a unique and systemic failure of our institutions and political culture.

Chattel slavery was so bad that when we tell you how bad it in fact was most of y'all shut down and tell us we're making it up and pass laws against us ever telling you how bad it was again because your brains literally cannot handle how bad it in fact was.
"How bad slavery was" is worse. Much worse. Much worse than you think, much worse than you're taught, much worse than museums depict. Worse.

This is exactly--and I mean exactly--how Holocaust deniers have long discredited the Final Solution being a concerted effort & high-level order. "The Jews in the camps all died of typhoid outbreaks"
I’m kind of speechless with this one. I can’t imagine the kind of person who continues to make the argument that it doesn’t count as real starvation if the kids were already sick.

Police have set up a checkpoint and appear to be stopping every single car on 14th st NW, between W+V, here in northwest DC. Some cars are being pulled over after being stopped.

Monday’s mass shooting may put concerns over gun violence back on voters’ minds, and have already lead some to scrutinize Mr. Mamdani for his views on policing. “He clearly does not understand what public safety is all about,” said Cuomo w/ @emmagf.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2025/07/29/n...

Airdrops are universally acknowledged as probably the worst and least efficient way to get aid to people. You airdrop when you a) want to want to so something but can’t, or b) you don’t want to do anything but want to look like you are.

If they're going to shut down Congress for this, fill the silence with these news stories. Make it unavoidable.
I am being completely serious when I say that Democrats in Congress should be planning daily press conferences between now and September asking why Republicans are refusing to do their jobs to protect the country’s most famous pedophile who was also best friends with the leader of their party
