Hey, just got word that there's someone out there emailing people from annleckie05 at gmail, pretending to be me "reaching out" to people.

That is not me! If I email you out of the blue it will almost certainly come from annleckie.com, or possibly my personal email which doesn't contain my name.

Eyesight 2 poor, hands 2 arthritic to thread my sewing machine needle. But I just figured out a hack: 1) Remove needle fr machine 2) thread machine to just before the needle. Leave a long tail. 3) thread needle outside the machine. Use needle threader if that helps. 4) Re-insert needle into machine.

Charisma is a local trans artist, creator, bookseller and all around wonderful human. I've been so lucky to get to hang out with them, and I've gotten to admire their art and their incredible positivity.

They had to move a while back due to fuckery. Please give whatever you can!
Please share and donate if you can! Much much needed and appreciated ❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I have started an urgent gfm for my partner and friend Charisma and Robin. Please consider supporting them as they face financial hardship and housing insecurity! gofund.me/21cc825a8

Bought a folding indoor-outdoor picnic table manufactured by Enduro. Turns out the plastic of the table top was imbued w strong perfume -- that's really a thing! -- not in the description. Washed it w vinegar, soap, surfactant; nothing got it out. It was making people sick, so I had to toss it.

Hey Bluesky do you have recs for general maths books that would be friendly towards neurodivergent kids, preferably with illustrations?
We are trying to learn equivalent fractions and the usual metaphors of pies and slices of pies are just not what kiddo needs

PLEASE, retail workers

from a religious minority living under Christian hegemony year-round

(factcheck: true)

the public space stuff this time of year is a lot

(though I'd 100% take public Christmas but w/national abortion access if playing forced choice, ofc)

PLEASE DO THIS

it is a kindness
When I worked at a bookstore, I quickly learned that people cannot tell the difference between Xmas music and any Baroque or Elizabethan music album that doesn't get too organ-ish. I used this to my advantage.

One customer caught on... AND THANKED ME
If we had to hear “Baby Shark” everywhere we went for two whole months out of the year we’d throw a fit, right?

And rightfully so.

So tell me, why do we put up with it when the song is “Frosty the Snowman”?

This week—learning that my book was banned & confronting state-imposed censorship of concepts like “diversity” and “oppression”—have been discouraging. I got a new book coming & don’t know what the future brings. BUT. The more The Powers That Be try to silence me, the louder I’ll become.

I was kinda nervous about giving this speech TBH. I don't usually get nervous about public speaking but going to a fancy Washington DC event and talking about fascism and why AI sucks felt like a lot honestly. I was so relieved people seemed to like it.

Amal’s audiobook for The River Has Roots, her novel about two sisters who make music together, has *actual music played and sung by her and her sister* and you should listen to it.
I'm so happy more people will be made aware of Gem Carmella's brilliant narration & Steve Wagner & the Macmillan Audio folks' excellent work producing it! & it's honestly amazing to get to share this kind of recognition with my sister, because we sang & played music together on it.

I can print out tee shirts with the phrase "Space plus bullshit equals death"

ARRIVAL was made from a Ted Chiang story that was first published in the Starlight 2 anthology. The movie grossed a worldwide total of over $200 million.

obviously we don't know how much he made licensing it, but the point is: that's Ted's money.

Money flows TOWARDS the writer.

Not even for legacy mag cred.

Made it back to my office for office hours after this morning's not very strenuous class. Yet I'm sitting in my chair in the dark, too tired to stand and walk the five steps to my door to turn on the light. Yay, #fibromyalgia

PSA for any Apub authors whose books are in the Anthropic settlement list: Amazon is not participating in the settlement, since they have an investment in Anthropic. When you submit your claim form, you DO NOT have to list Amazon as an add'l rightsholder, & can claim 100% of settlement money.
