I would also add it’s going to get increasingly tough to meet the mutual aid demands (covering rent, chiefly) without continued wide support that national coverage can help generate.
A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:

“She can’t appeal to a broad electorate — that is the problem,” said Xochitl Hinojosa, a former senior official at the Democratic National Committee.

Mmm. Like Mamdani? Can't wait to see how this take ages for you @xochitlhinojosa.bsky.social. Let's check back in 2028.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York is taking a larger role in Democratic politics, supporting moderate candidates and helping drive the party’s economic message. Her heightened prominence comes as insiders begin to whisper more loudly about what she might do in 2028.

A List of Complaints from 1926

Literally yesterday I discussed how much more ground around the school and park I could cover in our cargo bike. If it would warm up a little bit I could do it now, we have studded tires.
Honestly the longer ICE stays here the more advantage we gain. They have to be gone by spring. If the bike whackos get a shot at patrol it’s OVER.

one of the agents said “okay we know” when we were whistling so i leaned in and whistled louder and he threatened to pepper spray me. i then said “are you scared of a fucking whistle dawg” and he very meekly said “no i’m not scared of a whistle”

they're executing moms and nurses in the street. they're using preschoolers as bait. they're stealing people's dads and grandmas and children. they're tear gassing babies. they're staking out schools. there is no remedy but abolition. any proposal that doesn't start there is an act of violence.

Memory is a fragile thing in this moment, so it is important to keep in mind that Hakeem Jeffries refused to whip his caucus against ICE funding earlier this week.

Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump — 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.

From this moment forward (and before, but clearly now):

-If you work for ICE.
-If you vote for money for ICE.

You are complicit. This is the gestapo. You're on the wrong side. You can't pretend not to know.

Everyone who seriously, genuinely considers themselves left of center in any capacity should be actively asking themselves and their immediate colleagues and comrades: "what would a constitutional and political state of affairs look like where these events are made functionally impossible"?
The largest socialist organization in the US (which, notably, does have a council-level presence in the Twin Cities) really ought to return to the kinds of discussions it was earnestly having during Trump's 1st term: constitutional overhaul. How can we be the parliamentary agitators for new law?

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

What ICE is doing is terrorizing an entire community to rid it of anyone who is not white. They function like a modern day slave patrol, run by the federal government.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Minneapolis and Saint Paul have basically mobilized into a war economy of mutual aid and non-violent defense. I’ve never seen anything like it, even during Covid. People who barely vote are guarding their schools from ICE and doing the shopping for neighbors in hiding.
This is so smart. I’m so impressed with all the different ways you’re helping your neighbors.
