It certainly doesn't sound like the "suddenly new covid enquiry" setup to provide a report to the government a few weeks out from the election has a lot of space for nuanced analysis of the "while lessons can be learned we need to keep what was happening elsewhere in mind" variety.

Athanasios Orphanides is a Milton Friedman acolyte so it's got a pre-determined outcome.

He has argued against central banks having a mandate for protecting employment, so is likely to damn any such policy.

Taxes often pay for valuable things that we need, but this is bad policy. It's a big government subsidy to import an expensive form of fuel, while not solving any of the real issues in our electricity market or helping us to transition to clean and sustainable energy. (2/2) #nzpol #nz #newzealand

"Lol sportsball" sneering is a socially acceptable thing in nerd circles but it is also extremely toxic too cool for school self-vicitimization.
a perfidious thing 90s media did was associate the stereotype of the bully with sports via The Jock. sports are cool, you get to hang out with your friends, have fun, get good brain chemicals, and it took me forever to realise that because media told me it was for bad people.

Change in jobs by district from peak 2023 (or 2024). Wellington gets attention but other places have had it tougher - eg those that lost anchor employers.
This is what happens when you crash your whole economy because unemployment is 'too low' in urban centres. So stupid. [1/2]

"Customer data will drive our decisions" is an idea at the root of so many recent institutional failures. It works when you're selling a luxury item, but not when you're doing politics or journalism, or education. Anything that requires a principled position cannot rely on the preferences of others.
