A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Ich verstehe, wenn Leute Panikmeldungen über den Klimawandel nicht mehr aushalten. Es ist wahr: Man motiviert Leute nicht, wenn man immer nur schwarzmalt. Aber das Problem ist: Die Klimaschutz-Seite hat kaum jemals schwarzgemalt. Echt pessimistische Prognosen (die es auch gäbe) kamen kaum vor.

Something I’ve noticed is there seems to be a sort of pervasive assumption that the status quo has gravity. That there’s a natural, comfortable way things should be and that deviations from the normal state of the world will correct themselves in time.

But as a paleontologist, I know this is false.

But they were...sort of...bad on equal terms. What set Vimes's teeth on edge was the idea that kings were a different kind of human being. A higher lifeform. Somehow magical.

It seems pointless to fact check someone saying "curry isn't proper British food like fish and chips", just like it's futile to correct someone saying "there are no pronouns in the Bible". They haven't made a mistake. What they're saying is, "Britain is a white country".
