Howdy, all!

With BlueSky having a moment, here's a shameless request:

If you live in AZ, care about restaurants, and like what you read below (or just enjoy pretty pictures and food talk), I hope you’ll consider helping me find like-minded folks by lending this a repost. Lemme 'splain... (1/9)
Submitted for nerd credentials: Favorite Stranger Things retro musical cue.

Some pop anthem? Hell no. S3E6, Philip Glass, Satyagraha, Act II Scene 1. Douglas Perry rocked little Dom's 10-year-old dome in the balcony at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in 1987.

That's MY '80s nostalgia, fam.

So, is there a point when the gang finally figures out that immediately alerting each other to potential trouble would be WAY more effective than wandering around for three days thinking, “Gosh, some really weird, creepy things happening so Imma investigate some abandoned buildings alone,” or nah?

A health insurance rep just told my wife that she couldn't give her the name of the physician who reviewed her case because that would be a HIPAA violation, demonstrating that it isn't just laypeople who have no fucking clue how HIPAA works.

"Who is my doctor?"
"I'm sorry, I can't tell you that."

Listening to some K-pop song that has borrowed the melody from Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and it’s freaking me out.

Why must everything I love die.

Few things are funnier than online ramen bros who accidentally clown themselves by decrying non-traditional bowls as “made for YT people” without realizing they’re from hotspots in Japan.

Spoiler, bros: People in Japan like to make and eat creative new dishes sometimes, too.

Okay, MOM.

Wow. I can't tell whether I should be horrified or thrilled that I accidentally stumbled right into "elitist hipster" territory.

It's possible that I have never been so cool/reviled in my life.
Looks like it’s the genre of choice at the moment to make fun of elitist hipsters. 🫣

Also just downloaded Pino D'Angio's "Balla!" but I'm not sure whether I like it genuinely or ironically and I'm even less sure which of those prospects is more terrifying.

Currently downloading 1970s Ethiopian jazz. This is not a rabbit hole I saw coming.

One of the ironic tragedies of the death of the traditional dining critic is that with restaurant prices what they are now, the public *needs* that kind of objective, informed service journalism more than ever.

I really don’t like to make a habit of sharing dunks, especially from other sites, but c’mon… this is a work of art worthy of the Uffizi.

Levoni Salame Napoli sliced fresh at the deli counter: $27/lb

EXACT same salami pre-sliced and pre-packaged in the same store: $68/lb

I will never understand.

I cannot fucking believe we are now marketing salsa macha as “Mexican Chile Crisp.”

Every day Bovino is in the headlines, the chances of Sean Penn winning an Oscar for One Battle After Another increases.

Freaking eerie, man.

Last Week: Holy shit, how am I going to fill 45 minutes?

This Week: Holy shit, how am I going to say all of this in 45 minutes?

I will not accept this kind of disrespect for Milli Vanilli.
People need to stop retconning literally the worst era in American popular music history into something it wasn't, just because there were also some amazing records that like 250 people happened to be hunting down and listening to

Hanging out at Stage 5 today.

Incidentally, tonight is EXACTLY why sanding down the game's quirks in favor of efficiency and expedience — designated runners in extra innings, the DH, etc. — sucks. You eliminate some of the most fun, memorable moments just to shave a few minutes off the gametime. Lame.

Guess we're getting designated runners for the postseason next year, huh?

(I hate the designated runner.)
