Millionaires group urge Reeves to introduce wealth tax to ‘lift kids of out poverty’.

But Govts listen to the City type.

1% have more wealth than 70% of the population.
Poorest 20% pay higher proportion of income in taxes than the richest 20%.

Can't grow economic by squeezing the bottom 50%.
Why a group of wealthy Brits have urged Reeves to introduce a wealth tax
This appeal comes ahead of Reeves’s upcoming Budget announcement in Westminster later this month

Late impromptu breakfast at Blake’s en route to the Baltic in hissing rain and with no suitable attire. Wonderful. It’s a long walk back up Dean Street but worth it. Drove home feeling uplifted.

Temperatures are dropping. Still no gas and no heat. May have to relocate again but difficult to chase engineers from a distance. Tricky times.

Would anyone be interested in collaborating with me? I’m looking for someone to write 4-panel comics or jokes that I could illustrate. Not for money, sadly, just to put joy into the world. Credit will be shard fully.

DM if interested x

You couldn’t make it up. When the engineer came to check the gas boiler he declared it sound. The finger points to the wood burner for the carbon monoxide leak. But he detected a gas leak, completely separately and apparently coincidentally. He switched the gas off again. Good job it’s mild.

I know you all do , but if you don’t , test / check your carbon monoxide alarms. I’m so glad I had two in place that worked.

A near miss with carbon monoxide poisoning yesterday. It lingered a long while. Gas boiler and wood burner both have stickers on and we await developments. Meanwhile northern gas kindly gave me a fan heater last night. I didn’t sleep much. Scared I might not wake up :) I did.

Still, on the positive side I can get supportive counselling today straight away without even waiting a day if I want it. In San Jose. Marvellous.

Now. Do I dare to light the newly repaired stove and risk smashing the new glass. The men - it took two of them wrestling with the screws- said ominously as they left , good idea to order a spare glass as they go quite often. Hm. Not what I wanted to hear.

Yesterday was a strange day. Today I’m defrosting the fridge freezer. I’m up to my eyes in piles of defrosting basil. All over the floor. My feet are soaking and the fridge is now eerily silent when switched back on. I should have left well alone. >new mantra>

This piece by Melissa Harrison is simply gorgeous. My beloved dog Tilly also had pancreatitis in her last year, and taking care of her was privilege, not a chore. She'd spent her whole life taking care of me, after all. I still miss her with every breath. mzharrison.substack.com/p/loving-an-...

Lovely mild morning in the garden. I forgot the bird food. I’ll have to go back for it. The sparrows are shouting pointedly and hopping about in the mock orange.

Been in the bath. It’s been a long time. There was a time when I’d perch the iPad on the side and watch a film -but I don’t like to leave TT long now. She understands showers but came to check on me in the bath. Her tiny face peeking from the bedroom.

I conclude that my monthly regime of Tidying the Cupboards and Rearranging might have served me well ten years ago when I had a brain. Now, not so much.
Lost this week - white spirit, WD40 albeit temporarily, nail accessories, a favoured swim suit.

I’m always “acquiring” nail clipppers. Small ones and the toe nail jobs. But just as the calcified horny old toe nails threaten the likelihood of even walking round the supermarket, hunting high and low does not uncover so much as a nail scissor. #livid

Left the afternoon garden trip a bit late and it was semi dark. Flushed out 3 pheasants settled for the night , they all took off in a flurry of whirring and protest. I felt bad for them as they went right over the tree tops. Tiny Ted pottered about apparently oblivious. Yet her hearing is fine.

One for All Hallows' Day - not taken today, but still worth posting. My favourite photo I've taken of York Minster at first light - it seems to magically exude warmth and light - after the darkness recedes and night turns into day...

Heartening to find much hilarity in the nearby village shop run by volunteers. New trainee quailed as I approached and immediately pressed a few bum notes on the till just to complicate things. I felt better about my own volunteering. One minute you can be doing a full on experty job and next ???
