Clinical eye care researcher & Orthoptist ('straight eyes'), at National Centre for Healthy Ageing 🇦🇺🇬🇧 She/her. My views are my own, not my institution's. Posting about dementia-friendly eyecare and why allied health is awesome!

Hello new folks! I'm an allied health professional - an orthoptist, the profession you've never heard of until you need our help 😂 Think of me as like an eye physiotherapist - 'Orthoptist' = 'straight eyes'! We diagnose/treat eye movement and depth perception problems in neuro conditions & childhood
My very earnest student told me last week that she couldn't believe I was turning 40 this year and thought I was younger. I guess sometimes you just gotta take that W on the chin 😂

Ugh, bossman said to me a few days ago that I should apply for some grants this year like NHMRC - he is right but also ugh 😣

Every NHMRC EL Investigator grant workshop I've been to has left me pretty depresso espresso about even trying. They're sooo hard to get and I am not a good fit. #AcademicSky

Do ward changes affect outcomes differently in people living with dementia?
AbstractBackground. Ward changes during hospital admissions are associated with poorer outcomes, but their impact on people living with dementia is unknown

Me talking about someone's AI peer review of an AI written article: So I said reject and gave a list of reasons why it wasn't suitable, and the first review came through that was a glowing, effusive accept!
@drbaonguyen.bsky.social: So does that make you Reviewer 2? 😆
