Kew residents have had to put up with hooning and damage to local roads for years. It’s not just the noise disruption in a beautiful part of Kooyong, it's the knowledge that it’s only a matter of time before we see a nasty accident from unsafe driving and racing.
‘Dangerous, intrusive, relentless’: Push for fresh crackdown at this hoon hotspot
One resident near Yarra Boulevard says he calls Triple Zero five times a week, while the City of Boroondara mayor likens the noise to the grand prix.

Submissions to the parliamentary inquiry into the CSIRO have a consistent theme.

Funding of public science and medicine in Australia is too fragmented, short-term, and reactive. It ignores the fact that sovereign capacity for R&D is essential national infrastructure.

Last year, for the first time, alcohol and gambling companies, and their lobby groups, donated more than $5m to the major parties. Looks like they are getting a reasonable return on their investment.

On January 26, an explosive device was allegedly thrown into a crowd of peaceful protesters in Perth. As I said last week—and again today in Parliament—this should be investigated as a potential act of terrorism and treated with the gravity it deserves by state and federal police forces.

950 days after the Murphy Report into gambling reform was released, the Albanese government hasn’t responded to a single one of its recommendations. Meanwhile, Australians lose almost $90 million every day to online gambling and pokies. It’s time to ban the advertising of online gambling.

Medical research matters. It’s great to see the govt give $40 million to FightMND to improve data collection, access to clinical trials and new therapies for motor neurone disease. Neale Daniher is an extraordinary man, and this funding helps cement his legacy.

On Jan 26, an explosive device was allegedly thrown into a crowd of peaceful protesters in Perth. Acts of violence or attempted violence like this are unacceptable. This sort of event should be viewed as an act of terrorism and treated with the gravity it deserves by state and federal police forces.

For the first time, clean energy has supplied the majority of electricity in our main grid for a full three months. And, because renewables are dominating new supply and easily the cheapest source of new energy, our bills were cheaper as a result. Win, win! reneweconomy.com.au/landmark-mom...
"Landmark moment:" Prices plunge as renewables supply half of grid, batteries surge and coal hits new low
Record renewables and storage, falling prices and emissions, lowest coal and plunging gas delivers much needed boost for federal government's energy transition.

We name cyclones, because naming helps communicate risk, drive health responses & lodge events in public memory. Is it time to consider naming our most deadly climate hazard after the companies most responsible for heat-intensifying emissions? I think so.

www.thenewdaily.com.au/opinion/2026...
As temperatures to rise, it's time to name heatwaves what they are
We should start by calling heat what it is – a silent killer – and by asking those who profit from it to own their share of that harm.

Heat kills, and it’s time the Albanese government did something about it.

After record heat scorched Vic today, I’m kicking off a campaign to name heatwaves & save lives.

While we’re at it, perhaps we should name deadly heat after those making the biggest contribution. Heatwave Woodside, anyone?

Heatwaves kill more Australians than floods, fires and cyclones combined.

If we named them, we could treat them as the public health emergencies they are.

Should we name them after the fossil fuel companies that contribute to them?

Right now, the Government is starving medical research of full funding, even as it claims that science and research are national priorities. If our leaders truly value science as much as they say, then they must back their words with action—and fund it properly.

Join the campaign!

In Parliament today, we remember the 15 lives needlessly lost, and honour them with love, respect, and heartfelt grief.

It’s great to see the Albanese govt putting more effort and funding into recycling solar panels, in an effort that - according to the Productivity Commission - could save us billions, increase the uptake of solar, and help us reuse silver, copper, and aluminium.
The dirty secret in Australia’s love affair with rooftop solar
Nearly 4 million solar panels are discarded every year, but a new recycling scheme could turn trash into treasure.

In the words of a world-renowned cardiologist, Australia’s young medical researchers are “left to flounder with total job insecurity and family pressures. It’s the best recipe we have for raiding our future, in terms of a medical research workforce and the benefits of medical research”
‘We’re losing careers’: Leading cardiologist warns Australian medical research is in crisis
The head of the Heart Research Institute is telling young scientists medical research is a “terrible career path”. There’s a $5 billion answer in the government’s budget.

In #2016 I had no inklings of becoming a politician, but was working on my capacity for robust competition anyway 🥹… Sadly, this is the last time I experienced personal sporting glory - I've since had to settle for waiting for the 2026 Carlton premiership…

We're constantly told we need new oil and gas developments because of shortages in the east coast gas market in Australia.

The reality is that Japan is buying our gas and onselling more of it every year than we use on the east coast. Japan has created an industry out of selling Australian gas.

I’ve been hearing for months from parents of profoundly disabled adults about the trauma of supported accommodation homes being closed because the state govt is refusing to continue subsidies for workers. I’ve written to the NDIS Minister repeatedly and spoken in parliament about the issue.
