Analytics by trade and a past life fighting Memphis crime with data. Ranting half-baked passing thoughts to myself and getting it out of my system before I ruin Thanksgiving dinner. I don’t claim to be right, but only the cat can judge me.

My prediction is after the primaries, Dems will go along with everything trump wants. They’ll be safe from public opposition. Trump won’t have to even try to rig an election when whoever wins is already in his pocket. Efficiency!

📌 until primaries are over, see if my prediction is correct.

“Just have the servicemembers follow their oath” sounds clean and simple in a skeet. In real life it’s anything but and it’s not practicable as a genuine check on civilian leaders. You’re asking young people with high school educations to make legal, constitutional decisions in an info-vacuum.

Trump thinks removing Maduro is enough because trump thinks the US would fall apart without him.

Why would Venezuelans celebrate? Because if the same thing happened to trump, lots of Americans would celebrate too. And lots of Americans would take up arms. His regime has spent 50+ years getting into power, and they wouldn’t go quietly. MAGA would back them 100%.

Ignoring urgently needed reforms in favor of fruitlessly trying to find evidence of fraud, DOGE descended on the Social Security Administration “thinking it should work like a McDonald’s,” the agency’s former acting chief told ProPublica.

This is our #4 most-read story of 2025:
The Untold Saga of What Happened When DOGE Stormed Social Security

My friend bought his wife $400 boots because they sparked his foot fetish. We all learned that night how many of our friends have foot fetishes as they admired the boots.

Also, quality footwear is expensive. And lasts forever. Like my knee high lace up steel toe gripfast leather boots from 1998.

Cornbread: check (soak jalapeños in the buttermilk overnight for a diffuse heat)
Hog jaw: gross (only eat competition pork)
Greens: gross (super gross)
Monty python: check (holy grail)
Tree down: check (☹️)

We glorify the Italian mafia and feature the Russian mob in movies. But heaven forbid someone black or brown act the same. And racists have been targeting Minneapolis Somalis for years.

I’m not going to dismiss allegations out of hand, but they will absolutely be held to a higher standard of proof.

New slogans:

“If ICE can mask, so can you”
“Keep your snot to yourself”

Shame is way more effective than appealing to an anti-masker’s better nature.

Condition: create a shorthand to circumvent reasoning

Emotion: the feeling and physical response that occur before reasoning

Pair the two first. Then reverse engineer the reasoning to make yourself feel better. Repeat.
Fascism requires mythology. Fascism is built on symbols, aesthetics, and raw emotion. The rationalization is an afterthought.

If you ask a fascist what radicalized them, guess what you're going to get?

I had to do a census of every daycare in Shelby county TN when I was a grad student 20 years ago. I have no doubt that there’s fraud. In Memphis at least, it ain’t money laundering, and the fraud is over scraps.

Long rambling 🧵
Trump guys are about to Comet Pizza every third daycare center because they think they are all fronts for Somali money laundering. They're only doing this near cities with progressive mayors. This is straight up Government by LibsOfTikTok.

Instead of cancelling, make every performance a criticism and caricature of the admin. Bring onstage everything they want to cancel: drag queens, rainbows, Ukrainian flags, all of it.
As things at the Kennedy Center continue to devolve, I'm thinking of Guster's protest while performing there earlier this year as a bright spot for resistance.
EXCLUSIVE: After Kennedy Center cancels LGBTQ+ musical, Guster brings cast on stage in protest
Finn's run at the storied DC venue was axed after Trump took over.

I went to summer camp with someone from a wealthy family. One year I hitched a ride on their jet. Lou Dobbs had also hitched a ride. Pretty sure he wasn’t going to summer camp.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

states can’t borrow like the federal government can, and many state constitutions require the budget be balanced every year. now, add all the financial pressures from ACA, the BBB’s SNAP/medicaid cuts, withheld disaster funds, lower tax revenue from a sputtering economy… yeah, it’s bad
NEW with @natsfert.bsky.social: Some states are spending hundreds of millions to make up for federal cuts to Obamacare aid. They warn it won't be enough to stop millions of people from becoming uninsured. www.politico.com/news/2025/12...
States step into the breach as Obamacare subsidies lapse
Even state governments that want to help can’t completely cover rising insurance premiums.

If you think of "hiring in entry level positions" as "procuring labor to do the tasks entry level people do" then you probably do think AI is a magical headcount reduction machine.

But the point of hiring in entry level positions is to produce mid-career employees.

Replacing junior coders with AI is a deliberate decision to rack up technical debt: bug-ridden, sprawling code bases that are impossible to understand or maintain.

It'a a decision that ensures you won't have any senior coders in 6 years when you need people to fix it. It's eating your seed corn.

The “flood the zone” strategy is a great shell game of distractions - 1 is scandalous so distract with 2, when that gets too hot distract with 3, when that gets too hot go back to 1 etc. no progress is made on any. Epstein is a distraction as much as the others distract from it. Now we have 60 min…
