every time some prominent man is like ‘but all men want to fuck 17 year olds! every last one!’ i feel just fucking empty man. because there’s no way to confirm it isn’t true is there? i can’t prove that all of civilization isn’t just an elaborate cover for men’s supposed desperation to fuck children

This is what male solidarity & collective action to oppress women looks like:

Artist Andres Serrano--successful, but nowhere near the same class as Thiel & other billionaires in the files--stating that he'll vote for Trump, despite his politics, out of *sympathy* with T's sexual assaults on women.

Kind of crazy that evidence is mounting that the world is run by a group of rapists, pedophiles, and men convinced of women’s inmate natural inferiority, and the pundit class is trying to convince us that the real social crisis is that men are victimized and lonely because women have too many jobs.
You just know that “Did Women Ruin the Workplace?” bit would have done NUMBERS in this little clique
Something absolutely perfect about Larry Summers riffing about the scourge of woke cancel culture being unfair to predatory men in a friendly email to his pal JEFFREY EPSTEIN.

Anyway, sexual violence is both a model for how power operates in the larger world and a privilege assumed to belong to those in power. Enjoy your dinner!

i wish i could convince myself to hope that maybe, just maybe, THIS time people will finally admit that sexual violence is *political violence*, is a political and social structure, is a technology of oppression, not a private, basically forgivable transgression. but i really can't fool myself
The idea that sexual abuse is part of “private” life instead of a public crisis has done incalculable damage. Anti-rape activists have to fight to even make it possible to expose sexual abuse as a wrongdoing in public without being silenced and undermined. That fight is far from won

something i think is cool is that we all have to sensationalize what trump and other powerful men did as pedophilia because the routine abuse and degradation of young women is completely acceptable in our culture and would never be a red flag let alone a red line.

Constantly being led around by Josh Harris is humiliating
Mayor Cherelle L. Parker promised at a news conference Friday that her administration’s plans to revitalize East Market Street will unfold quickly and in partnership with large private-sector supporters — most notably Comcast and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Comcast promises to ‘turbocharge’ East Market revitalization efforts championed by Mayor Parker
The mayor unveiled a list of 60 people who will sit on her Market East advisory committee.

leaked quotes threatening leakers is really my #1 fav genre of Putting in the Newspaper that I'm Mad
I’m picturing how much fun it was to write this paragraph.

“The Washington Free Beacon obtained and reviewed a video of the meeting. "If we see someone leaking, you’re fired," Eric Korsvall, the organization’s chief operating officer, said during the question and answer portion of the meeting.”
EXCLUSIVE: ‘I Made A Mistake’: Heritage Foundation President Apologizes to Staff for Video Refusal to Cancel Tucker Carlson and Throws Shade at Former Chief of Staff

my experience of this is that one of the ways these guys perform power is by being the only one in the meeting looking at their phone/visibly having somewhere else to be, so when other people look at their phones in meetings these guys lose it

Obviously, it has no capability to do background processing. So there's a bunch of posts from irate users because ChatGPT told them to wait hours/days/weeks while it did absolutely nothing at all 💀

This story, published in July, becomes more relevant with every passing day as lawmakers and activists work to shutter clinics and restrict access to abortion pills.

We are careening toward a not-so-distant future where abortion is just a right on paper, even in the states where it's still legal:
The Plot to Effectively Ban Abortion Nationwide Is Unfolding Before Our Eyes

i literally read a post two days ago that was like "isn't it funny they aren't making a federal anti abortion push" and folks yes it was written by a man
NEW: 51 Senators urge RFK Jr. and Marty Makary to end telemedicine prescriptions of the abortion drug mifepristone— and to suspend its distribution as an "imminent hazard" under Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Collins and Murkowski only GOP members not to sign

i was just reading a story in my local paper that had THREE by-lines and an extensive interview with a cyclist who survived what sounded like a pretty rough crash with an e-bike. guess who they didn't interview? the guy from the bicycle coalition who died after being hit by a car this summer.
This is the main issue I have with so much of the coverage around e-bikes. It's not that there aren't legitimate issues. But there is a panic around e-bikes and crickets regarding the daily toll of cars. And that's because the harm of cars is just accepted. It's baked into our society.
The deference we give to drivers is astonishing: speeding, blowing through red lights, crashing without a whisper; yet we jump on non-drivers the moment they step out of line.

they're also barely watching the tvs - they're looking at draft kings on their phones and pissing themselves off to death.
I watch sports in bars a lot, and in the past two years, a new and distressing Type of Guy has emerged: under 30ish, always by himself, scowling silently at the TVs with a pack of Zyns and a Mich Ultra in front of him, not appearing to root for any team in particular
% of US men under 30 who say legal sports betting is a *bad thing* for society

22% in 2022
47% in 2025

No other demographic group has seen a bigger increase.

Hi @npr.org! We worked late tonight putting together this handy pocket guide!

It doesn't address road design issues, but if we're going to educate road users, we should include drivers.

It's the size of a folded business card. Print it, fold it, put it in your wallet!
