And I don't know if the answer is: everyone is too traumatized to do work and we need to reinvent society. Or if it's more like: generations are losing their cognitive abilities and willpower due to destructive technologies. Or: we all have post-viral brain damage. Or: all of the above.

It's only a matter of time before humanities departments will be forced to accept AI-authored assignments, as part of revised university policy to cooperate with these billionaires. It's already happening, and our response needs to be decisive. Because our students' ability to *think* is at stake.

To be clear, there’s a difference between a couple making $30k trapped in intergenerational poverty and downwardly mobile millennials who can’t pay for childcare, but building class solidarity among people who can’t afford shit makes it easier to organize against these impoverishing conditions

Some of you wouldn’t touch the word “poor” with a 10-foot pole and some of you are gatekeeping it like it’s a precious resource. If you can’t afford the basics— housing, healthcare, childcare, retirement— you’re poor, + the only debatable part is how poor. Most people can’t afford these things now!

A *huge* vaccine victory. I've been writing on this for years; Australia has seen remarkable progress in cervical cancer prevention with the HPV vaccine. I love seeing science triumph like this.
Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

I need everybody to read this and understand what’s going on. These are spouses of US citizens in the country legally. They have entry clearance and green cards, they’ve passed background checks and have no criminal records. ICE is taking them anyway.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

It's difficult to sum up the abject chaos Trump has caused by using people's ability to eat as a bargaining chip. Communication re: SNAP varies widely state by state, and it's wonderful to hear some have gotten November benefits, but many, many millions still haven't. This was totally avoidable.

If we had lost Virginia, there was a very real chance that we’d be losing abortion access in the state, which would be a disaster especially for us in DC, which couldn’t possibly absorb all those patients.

Watching with my abortion fund board member hat on, these results are a tremendous relief.
Looks like the Dems will pick up 12 seats in the VA House of Delegates, which will go from 51-49 to 63-37 D-R. That's an honestly shocking result.

This to me is the game. I don’t care if Schumer doesn’t like Mamdani, but for him to stand silently by while sex pest Cuomo leans into gutter racism and Islamophobia while accepting endorsements from Trump, Musk and Miller is outrageous from the Senate Minority Leader.
Schumer had a chance to repudiate the gutter racism and Islamophobia of Cuomo's campaign and he just fucking didn't. And that is disqualifying. He should be ashamed and we the voters should make sure he feels that shame.
Reporter: Today is election day in New York City. Did you vote for Mamdani or Cuomo?

Schumer: Look, I voted. And I look forward to working with the next mayor to help New York City.

Food banks need money if you’ve got it. For everything else, contact them and ask—some can take donated meat by hunters or eggs from backyard flocks, some can’t.
Records obtained by ProPublica indicate that food banks across the country were expecting more than 27 million pounds of chicken, 2 million gallons of milk, 10 million pounds of dried fruit and 60 million eggs that never arrived.
Trump Canceled 94 Million Pounds of Food Aid. Here’s What Never Arrived.
ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture that detail the millions of pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached food banks because of the administration’s cut...

There is an actual life-changing conflict between WFH being cheaper and more efficient, an entire layer of middle managers who need to have meetings to feel alive, and the commercial real estate cabal that runs all cities. It’s going to get so fucking weird.
remote work is like birth control or UBI atp where there’s overwhelming research consensus they improve quality of life for people they apply to, yet access is impeded or blocked by the ruling class because the thought of marginalized ppl having rich full lives makes steam come out their ears
2. Rolling Stone is owned by a large media conglomerate, which is ending remote work across its brands.

My home is Portland, Oregon, ~1,000 miles from the nearest office, so this marks the end of the line for me at RS.
