How?

There's no American forces in Venezuela. There's no ability to do any such thing without a large invasion.

It begs the question if they had any plan for what they'd do after Maduro was removed / wife kidnapped - or whether this is Four Seasons ineptitude.
Q: Who will run Venezuela?

TRUMP: Well it's largely going to be for a period of time the people standing right behind me. We're gonna be running it.

A deluge of work on regime change after the 2003 invasion of Iraq yielded strong (and rare) agreement in IR: it doesn't work & has terrible consequences. @profdownes.bsky.social's book Catastrophic Success lays it out, but it's right there in the title. www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/9781501...

The US has attacked Venezuela and taken its leader, in a throwback to Panama. But it also means that unhinged rhetoric have been made real.

There's an extra layer of alarm given the US' unhinged rhetoric to annex Greenland "one way or another" and to acquire Canada.

It is to Canada's shame we have not spoken out or supported a Canadian judge being sanctioned by the US

This is the "testing the waters" phase of the playbook. The GOP ecosystem targets groups like Somalis, Haitians, and trans people specifically because they've calculated that the average person's passive disapproval won't ever turn into active defense. They're exploiting public apathy.
i'm really having a hard time getting past the "surely we can all agree that Somalis are worse than trash" thing. this feels new and very bad

I feel constantly financially stressed. Part of it is real: I took a 30% pay cut a year ago.

But part of it is catastrophizing about my future. I make enough to pay my landlords' mortgages, but not enough to qualify for my own.

And I can't afford rents tripling for the same small footprint again.

You made it, and I'm excited to see what wonders you'll get up to. 🤎

As an aging queer, this seems up my alley.
if you’ve read Alison Bechdel’s earlier books - especially Dykes to Watch Out For or Fun Home - check out her 2025 comic book Spent. Such a clever and hilarious account of queer aging, creativity, politics, ethics, community, and change

What makes Poilievre so dangerous is that he's after power at all costs. He's not there to make things better. He's there because he wants the title of PM.

That's why there's no substance beyond vapid catchphrases, and why he's been willing to spread disinformation. There is no moral floor for him.
I take a little time off and the leader of Canada’s official opposition goes on a livestream with a guy who begged me for feet pics

This is why people think canada isn’t real!!!!!

I watched Les Furies tonight in Gatineau. Probably the best trans rep in a Canadian movie this year with two roller derby players being trans?

It was funny, heartwarming and delectably sappy.

There's so many parallels between children-blaming estranged parents, and that of transphobic parents.

It's no coincidence that the WSJ, NYT, Economist, cover them the same way too: by dismissing the words of the now adult children.

A hard-er lesson in emotional regulation I've learned is resisting venting in public. I do have friends who hear the details, but only some and only once.

It's harder up-front, but it helps me move on more quickly.
