I asked myself who could have such a naive understanding of things that this is the question they'd ask.

Then I found out it was the NYT, and I was no longer surprised.

The best part: I'm usually the first to leave (introvert), but here someone else left first unblocking that train. I was home before 9pm. 🥹

Sweden has 104 year mortgages; Japan 99. It has some perks as an instrument versus renting for life; for instance you aren't at the mercy of a landlord, can have pets, can do whatever you want to the property.

You can also sell and use that to pay for a retirement home.

The whole issue of trans women in sports was manufactured as a dog whistle by the GOP after same-sex marriage was faltering as a wedge issue, and then bathroom bans.

It's no more than Republican propaganda. Newsom leveraged that bigotry for personal gain.

He supported trans rights, then opposed them after the manosphere backed by hundreds of millions of $$$ in GOP anti-trans ads opposed them in 2024, and now feigns supports again now that trans-ally Mamdani won.

It's so clear he doesn't believe in rights, just in what will benefit him that minute.

Oh you're in for a treat. It's got a different look and texture to NY-style bagels.

Similarly Montreal-style smoke meat sandwich is a thing. Another Canadian dish is hot chicken sandwich. If you drink, try a Ceasar.

If you're wanting to try Canadian food, get a Montreal style bagel from Kettlemans, a poutine from Elgin Street Diner, a beaver tail from the eponymous stall. Get a butter tart from a bakery. Also Ottawa's specialty is shawarma, lots of good options.

Depends what you're into.

For tourist things:
National Art Gallery, Kiweki Point, Canadian Museum of History, Byward Market, Rideau Canal locks, Château Laurier (you can get food there), Parliament Hill.

I mean "trans" as a concept is certainly structured around a lot of contemporary ideas and from a specific history, but existing outside of proscribed gender norms is as old as gender norms themselves. And that's what I mean in the above by trans.

Half of Americans don't know that the capital of Canada is Ottawa. There's no other country on Earth that's this ignorant of their neighbours.
