I just attended a soup-themed potluck. Half the people brought soup, the other half things to put on top.

Wholly recommend.

"Being trans is a new thing" meanwhile around her time were born:
- 1779: Thomas de Croismare
- 1786: Henriette-Jenny Savalette de Lange
- 1787: Christophe-Paulin de La Poix

New acquisition: a manuscript copy of a printed biography of a transwoman. France, 1859. (And after this, showing off cool items to Economics faculty…)

One thing about current events is watching America's most prestigious pundits talk about Canada like a student winging a presentation for a project they didn't do to class:

"Minister of Ottawa" (he meant Premier of Ontario)

"Governor of Ontario" (she meant Premier of Ontario)

Ahhh!! It arrived! The @littlepuss.net reprint of the Gender Trash from Hell zines plus historical materials from the early 90's!

A few years ago when I found out about this zine I printed them all out and read them back to back. It's exciting that more people are now going to read it too.

A legendary trans comic strip that I started reading in 2010 is coming to an end; check it out while it's still up.

To new beginnings for Sam! ❤️
Just letting you all know that I'll be shutting down Rooster Tails in the coming months. I want to do some different creative stuff, and I have been wrestling with this strip for a while. So. I'm retiring Rooster Tails.

That a municipal election in another country is capturing our attention shows how hungry we are for politicians that speak to the challenges we face as constituents.

I'm writing a short story about a group of trans millennials set in 2010, 2015 and 2025.

So I have to use the language of the day. Among them mtf/ftm (2010), doggo (2015).

One thing I love about Ottawa is that there's amazing cheese factories and sugar shacks nearby. Look at all these cheese curds!

To be a loud transphobe, you have to lack empathy, believe in conspiracy theories at all costs, listen in name only, and be the kind of anti-social that is fine with harming an entire population.

When a political party embraces these values, it's not just trans people who will pay, it's everyone.

Members of one of Canada’s largest white nationalist networks held a show of, um, force(?) in downtown Ottawa and in Regina over the weekend.

It was a pathetic display, but one we should unfortunately still talk about (with some research help from @antihate.ca!)

So let's do that:

No to importing American political dysfunction:

"Downey is also proposing to eliminate pre-election spending limits for third parties, as they were introduced to limit the advertising that groups ... can do right before spending limits kick in during a fixed-date election period."

The notable change in the past two decades I've observed is transphobia going from implicit (exclusion is norm but not policy) to explicit (policy crafted to exclude trans people even as society has progressed).

I cannot tell you how many tech journalists at prominent media organizations do not understand this
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Looking at the gun lobby in Canada, they want two things:
- The 'right' to kill people when non-lethal alternatives are available
- Own assault rifles

Not on the list:
- Reducing processing times for a PAL, which can take over a year
- Opening more gun clubs given that so many are at capacity
