I remember falling apart on the phone with my mom a year ago talking about the mayoral election because I believed my only options were going to be Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo. That there is something in politics that has *improved* in the last 12 months gives me hope like nothing else has

To describe Mamdani's campaign as "laced with antisemitism" while not addressing the in your face gutter racism Cuomo's been using down the stretch gives the game away really.

"All of it, in the end, becomes a question of what you will settle for, and how much you are willing to bear in exchange for a chance at making things less unbearable."

People who live in cities are Real Americans. This beautiful way of life is just as sacred as the homestead. It's worth protecting. It's worth preserving.

I liked the Platner ads too but I think there's a difference between "guy who had some bad reddit posts a decade ago" and "ex-Blackwater merc who still has a Nazi tattoo." Sucks bigtime that he's the only one taking positions and talking policy I like, but them's the breaks!

They really weren't. Signed, the former vice president of the Ohio State college Republicans (sorry)
"they've always been like this" is always a tempting savvy take but it is just not true that Republican staffers were 100 percent open Nazis back in 2004, or hell even 2014. they just weren't
there have been a lot of responses to this arguing that young Republicans were motivated by such feelings but didn't express them openly

and I think a crucial lesson of the Trump era is that there is great value in people not expressing these things openly! that's a big and decisive change!

I've been recognized exactly twice from Jeopardy and it was a fun and thrilling experience that I imagine wears out its welcome very quickly.
Science fiction author John Scalzi talks about the happy medium of fame for him, where people that are really into your work recognize you, and it’s rare enough that it’s generally an enjoyable experience, but you’re completely anonymous otherwise.

smart of the Lions to allow Jake Browning to look "resourceful" and "gritty" during that drive so that the Bengals will leave Jake Browning in for the second half

CHOTINER: This game you like to play, what's it called?

ME: Slay the Spire.

CHOTINER: And you play it on the computer?

ME: Yeah. Well, I also have it on my phone. I played another 300 hours.

CHOTINER: And these other games in your Steam library. Have you finished them?

ME: Now hold on a second,

I think once you realize most people have opinions based on vibes and then backfill arguments they think are acceptable to justify those opinions, you understand the current political landscape

I can appreciate the tactics Gavin Newsom is using, hope more Dems adopt that approach, not want him to hold any more higher office, and believe we still have three years to go before a presidential election all at the same time

Lifetime's "too young to be a dad" was part of my health class curriculum in 7th grade. Made me a very early Paul Dano fan pre - Little Miss Sunshine
Fun topic: what’s the first time you remember seeing now famous actors? Like, I remember seeing Michael Fassbender in JONAH HEX and thinking “shit, this dude’s good.”
I first saw Karl Urban in the movie Ghost Ship at a filthy $1 theater.

I could’ve never anticipated how many times I’d be saying to myself “Hey, it’s the guy from Ghost Ship!” for the rest of my life.

Lawyers who litigate against individuals with stalking histories and histories of extremely violent conduct against any opposition are required to do so under their names, even at great personal risk. So yeah, this sucks.
Lawyers for ICE are increasingly hiding their identities in court. This is completely unprecedented.

“We’re not really doing names publicly,” said Judge ShaSha Xu — after stating her own name and those of the immigrants and their lawyers.
