Good 🧵 about the importance of journalism…
BREAKING: @ajc.com on Tuesday evening said it will lay off approximately 50 staffers, about 15% of its headcount, as it seeks to cut costs and marshal resources to invest in its growth.

The AJC published its last print edition on 12/31. About half of those laid off will come from the newsroom.

Did he list Alex Pretti and Renee Good? Liam Ramos?
Q: Do you think this operation was a success here in Minnesota?

HOMAN: Yeah. I just listed a bunch of people we just took off the streets, so I think it was very effective as far as public safety goes. Was it a perfect operation? No.

Way to throw down the gauntlet, Andre. As if we weren’t dealing with the most petty narcissist in history. I suspect Europeans staying home should be the biggest concern…

Does word guessing and regurgitation = journalism these days? 🤔 I think the answer is greed, and sinking a bunch of money into a crap movie.
Is The Post the first major non-tech layoff that can be attributed in significant part to AI?

❤️ Never stop learning
Anywho. I’m slowly, slowly teaching myself how to draw. I’ve had an idea for a graphic novel for years now and I want to see it like it is in my head. I’m very bad at drawing but that’s okay.

Deleted a post about “what’s your least favorite song” because the vibes are bad enough already.

Instead: what’s your favorite song that has a long title, say at least 6 words long?

Mine: “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” (Pearl Jam)

Ben Shapiro: "So you disagree with AOC saying ICE should be abolished?"

Newsom: "I disagree, and I disagreed when a candidate by the name of Kamala Harris said it."

So much good music being made these days and the Grammys seems to be blissfully unaware of it. I am happy Mavis Staples won for her rendition of Kevin Morby's “Beautiful Strangers,” tho I am still trying to parse the difference between “Americana” and “American Roots” categories… 🤔

Children are the greatest artists. (Didn't Picasso say, “It takes a long time to learn to draw like a child”?) I used to work at a frame shop and we would frame all this great art by kids until they learned, sadly, they were supposed to color inside the lines and draw like everybody else…
This is very cute: Paul Joseph, Picasso's oldest child, writes a postcard to Gertrude Stein. He must have been about 8, so this would be around 1930.

Beautiful work. Like the “best band in the world” on any given night, the best painter is probably someone you haven't even heard of before…
In March @royalacademyarts.bsky.social will host the first UK exhibition of the Baroque painter Michaelina Wautier, a remarkable artist of the period, her work has been relatively forgotten, and much about her life and oeuvre remains to be uncovered. 'The Five Senses: Taste.' (1650)
