As a Jew, it’s fun watching the administration post Christian nationalist messages while also saying they are doing everything they can to curb antisemitism.
Here’s the U.S. government being officially religious in a country with no official religion.

The repeated pattern (see also Washington Post) is that these choices to veer rightward are not economic decisions: they turn off the core audience. Editorial choices are loss leaders for bigger corporate goals.
Major advertisers appeared to sit out a new CBS News town hall telecast Saturday, moderated by Bari Weiss and featuring an interview with Erika Kirk.

Lack of Madison Avenue support could challenge the viability of the format, which Weiss wants to expand

She is trained in physical medicine & rehabilitation, & does not have any relevant background for this position other than being a prolific & extreme antivaxxer and disease promoter
I suspect FDA no longer has qualified people willing to do this job.

Antisemitism is a lot like Qanon child abuse conspiracies in that there’s this real and bad phenomenon and, parallel to that, what can only be described as a large scale mass psychosis about a mostly fictional version of the same phenomenon

There were at least two ceasefires under Biden! In which more than five times as many living Israeli hostages were released in exchange for 240 Palestinians! Has everyone forgotten this?
Also, ceasefires have happened under prior Presidents! The day he gets Palestine their own country he can be told he's the most special boy deserving of a shiny prize.

This isn't just a case of them thinking too small.

The fix they're proposing will shield their Republican colleagues from facing any blowback in the midterms over the health care cuts they voted for.

They've got one card to play and they're using it to bail out the GOP.

Unfuckingbelievable.

They form a leadership team unlike any in CDC's history. Experts warn it reflects growing politicization.

I think people really struggle w partially consolidated authoritarianism, either understating our problem or understating our power

It's like we're in a liminal fascist space. And not recognizing how far gone we are or thinking we're simply too far gone are both grave errors we can't afford to make
any argument that trump has fully consolidated authoritarian power has to contend with the fact that the government wants to deport kilmar abrego garcia to uganda but hasn't done so, because a judge told them not to
I find this @donmoyn.bsky.social piece helpful in clarifying why I disagree with the "America is already in competitive authoritarianism" thesis.

Don's checklist shows things that Trump has tried to do, but he hasn't *succeeded* in most areas
