i know these people are too stupid to realize it but snap benefits and food assistance actually take money from
the federal government, pass it through real people to feed them, and then that money ends up in the local economy and farms. it’s exactly the kind of thing you want to happen!

Nearly 10% of humanity (~800M people in 2025) struggles to live on less than $3 a day. It’s important for Americans to appreciate that reality — and the growing gap between the extremely poor & the extremely privileged — because, as USAID demonstrated, our nation has the power to change it.

What Extreme Poverty Looks Like
Ten percent of humanity struggles to live on under $2 a day. That, and the gap between the extremely poor and the more privileged, is important to see.

it’s always “stop worrying about return on investment” when they’re talking about spending more and more and more and more on AI, but not when it’s a investigative news desk that takes months to break a story, a great show they don’t know how to market, a website that produces great articles etc
Hahahahahahah what are you TALKING about? Can you imagine if any of their employees said crap like this? lord! LORD!

The bill that would let Trump appoint the city's attorney general is particularly wild. D.C. would become the only place in the country where residents would have no say, direct or indirect, in who gets picked to be the chief law enforcement officer. None.

A 🧵: It was a wild day for D.C. in Congress yesterday, where a House committee advanced 14 bills targeting the city – everything from banning traffic cameras to giving Trump the power to appoint the city's attorney general. I've got a detailed write-up in @51st.news: 51st.news/house-republ...

It’s fine to say that violence is never the answer, but I can’t help but observe that for Charlie Kirk violence was always the answer, and it was the only answer he offered, and, because of the privilege that he refused to admit he had, he could enact it from a comfortable and respectable place.

My latest in @newrepublic.com: an urgent plea to recognize the humanity of DC residents, their longtime second-class citizenship and need
—should democracy not already be lost forever—for statehood.

“Washington, D.C., residents are the most powerless canary in the most authoritarian coal mine.”
Like It or Not, We Are All D.C. Now
The residents of the nation’s capital have long been denied their democratic rights. If Trump has his way, other cities may soon feel what that’s like.

It’s about priorities.
