Abusers will often steal & destroy evidence, like their kid's diary, drawings, letters to friends. Abusers feel enraged that any documentation of the trauma they inflict exists. The trauma of having your stuff searched, your drawings & writing destroyed as a child sticks with you. It's further abuse
ProPublica published children's letters and drawings documenting their sadness and suffering at Dilley. And Dilley staff are now retaliating by confiscating kids' letters and drawings.

My guess is that the goal here is not only to punish the children for turning more people against ICE/DHS, but also to make news outlets think twice about reporting on kids' suffering at the hands of ICE/DHS, out of concern that doing so might lead to retaliation against the kids.

Violent criminals like the 2 month old with bronchitis who was hospitalized that y'all just dumped across the border to deteriorate & possibly die? Like all the refugees you keep grabbing as they show up for their court appointments, who did nothing to anyone except wish for a better, safer life?
JD Vance: "What we have consistently said is that we want to deport violent criminals, people who came in under the Biden administration, and get them out of the country so Americans' wages can go up."

Incredibly thankful I wasn't drinking anything when I watched it. My spouse actually emerged from his office to see if I was okay, as it was.

Reporting requires relationships and therefore it fundamentally can't be performed by LLMs. The reason why tech vultures and media CEOs talk about AI revolutionizing journalism is because they see journalism as a set of slop mills rather than newsrooms that produce new information
if we do, in some grim future, give up and decide to cede the entire practice of reporting to LLMs generating stories from their inherently out-of-date training models, we will miss huge amounts of often exceedingly important information. to an extent that I believe would rapidly turn deadly.
