Two days ago it was Elissa Slotkin. Last week it was Jerome Powell. Before that, Mark Kelly. Weaponizing the justice system against your opponents is an authoritarian tactic.

The only person not being investigated for the shooting of Renee Good is the federal agent who shot her.
Breaking news: The Justice Department has issued subpoenas for Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey as part of an investigation alleging that they are impeding federal law enforcement officers’ abilities to do their jobs in the state.

American conservatives will look you right in the eye with a straight face and tell you that complete and utter subservience to masked federal police is patriotism, anything else deserves being executed in the street, and tax dollars for healthcare is tyranny.

One thing I didn't fully appreciate until I sat on a jury and reviewed body cam footage for myself, is how cops yell contradictory instructions at people like "Don't move" "Put your hands up" "Get the fuck out of here" "Keep your hands where I can see them" etc. all screamed at your face with guns

Excellent, damning analysis of the video of the killing of Ms Good, from the NYT, including a quick debunking of the “evidence” the President showed other Times reporters last night.

Video: Videos Contradict Trump Administration Account of ICE Shooting in Minneapolis
An analysis of footage from three camera angles shows that the motorist was driving away from — not toward — a federal officer when he opened fire.

It’s genuinely wild that the United States spent decades building an elaborate rules-based international order which de facto cemented its permanent status as the dominant global hegemon, sustained by ideology rather than might, and now is just blowing it all up for literally no reason

The rub: Alcohol is bad for you. “We now know that even modest drinking is linked to a higher risk of developing certain cancers such as breast, colorectal and esophageal cancers, as well as brain changes and dementia, heart problems and sleep problems.”
Many people think red wine is better for you than white wine or other types of alcohol. The notion was partly born from studies — some of which have been disputed.

Here’s what new evidence says:
Is red wine better for you than white? The answer may surprise you.
If you’re confused about alcohol, that’s understandable. Here’s what you need to know about red wine versus white wine in terms of health benefits.

You should subscribe to Law Dork. We all need to be law dorks in these times, and Chris can be your guide!
OK, a little pie-in-the-sky goal here: Any chance we could get Law Dork 549 new subscribers — free or paid — before the new year?

That would give Law Dork 80,000 total subscribers!

If you've relied on my work this year, share this with your recommendation!

As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

Last flight of my Xmas vacation, 5h40m wheels up to wheels down in a 737-8. As with previous flights on larger jets, CO2 averaged 1500-1700ppm with spikes during boarding and deplaning—3890(!!) at the end, which I think is the highest reading I’ve ever seen on my @aranethome.bsky.social sensor.
