If I'm reviewing your fellowship application, I will judge you for how many papers you publish. Because too *many* papers indicates you do not take the necessary time to do thoughtful, high-quality research

You don't have to cut down trees to install a bike lane, you just have to take some space from cars which currently have 2+2 lanes. Amazing how this isn't even mentioned as an option.

You know, many of us said the post 9/11 War on Terror measures were Orwellian bullshit at the time, from DHS to ICE. The Patriot Act was chilling as well.
Some of us objected vociferously. Perhaps we didn't have the mics or the power, but we remember 2001-2005 as a terrible time in this country.

One urbanism thing about the ICE occupations is that density seems to have some defensive benefits. ICE gets chased out by lots of neighbors, so more proximate neighbors mean stiffer resistance.
So activity is going to the suburbs, but there are fewer “bad guys” there, so not much of a spectacle.
