Drunk Alan Partridge is on my bus and pissed off the bus driver because he ineffectually kicked at the tyre and nearly hit the emergency stop button. He is absolutely hammered and a total liability. And I have a horrible feeling he’s getting off at my stop.

Feeling sorta Christmassy at choir. Can’t decide if I’m appalled or kinda into it. We do Messiah every year; we just don’t normally start rehearsing this early in November!

What a day in my scouse second home! Kimo’s breakfast, spectacular Beatles museum that had everything from a George Harrison strat to John Lennon’s garden furniture (tone indicator: hilarious). Then to the Capstone for an EPIC Levitation curated by the absolutely dote-y @castlesinspace.bsky.social

Out in Liverpool. Scene of so many ‘outs’. Am happy and a bit emotional (no, not that sort of emotional) about it. It’s changed enormously but it’s still my Liverpool.

Delighted to note that we are about 45mins off docking and despite the weather having a really good go of trying to make it happen, my breakfast did not make a reappearance. Choppy.
What idiots take a ferry to Liverpool on 31 October? Me and @solar76.bsky.social; we’re the idiots.
Going to a @castlesinspace.bsky.social all-dayer as they’re the parent label of Lunar Module, the label putting J’s album out in February. Exciting!

Some disjointed #strictly thoughts, having just caught up: 1. I feel like Karen hated that rumba but well done 2. Why was Alex dressed in a 1980s curtain? 3. I adore Jimmy and have zero interest in anything Lewis does 4. La Voix vs Tess is an ongoing delight. Keep her in for that alone. #scd

What a splendid autumn afternoon. Met Karen for lunch, then we headed to the Lyric to meet Louise and the three of us were absolutely immersed in the incredible one-woman play My English Persian Kitchen (with bonus ash at the end!). Mint tea afterwards at Louise’s and jollof rice for dinner. Sweet.

Choir auditions are looming. After last week’s concert, am very much in agreement with a colleague who said he’d never met a bit of Poulenc he didn’t like. So arrived home to this and wondering what Poulenc’s big hits were. Any recommendations?

I've just started reading Tom's book Villager and I'm already enjoying it! And his Mum's linoprints are gorgeously atmospheric.
To celebrate the rerelease of my short story collection Help The Witch via @swiftpress.bsky.social I’m giving away TWO signed copies each with a beautiful original linoprints by my mum, from the book (now v rare & worth £40).
To enter you just need to repost this and pop a reply below.

Bit of a music gear change tonight. Fab gig, though fuck me, it was loud (yes, I sound like the 49 year old I am). @solar76.bsky.social reckoned it was the biggest number of balding 45 year old computer programmers dancing together he’s ever seen.

Just back from a choir concert. When explaining how we would get on-stage, the person organising us said we should come on ‘men, then women, then altos’ and thus I seem to be an unexpected new gender.

Things which arrived at my house on Friday: some exciting reading from @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social and the most enormous beetroot I have ever clapped eyes on in the veg box (eggs for scale)

Costuming was, on the whole going well until they stuck George Clarke (not that one) in a pair of workman’s trousers like he was there to fix a leaky loo #strictly
