“All I want is to live in peace, plant potatoes and dream”. Sadly, however, bills need paid so I’m an arts marketer, amateur singer, slow-but-trying runner & keen cook.
Feeling sorta Christmassy at choir. Can’t decide if I’m appalled or kinda into it. We do Messiah every year; we just don’t normally start rehearsing this early in November!

@solar76.bsky.social and I are here! The purpose of the insane ferry trip. Lovely to meet @castlesinspace.bsky.social and looking forward to the day. If you’re here, I’m the one in the Super Furry Animals ‘Fuzzy Logic’ t shirt.

What idiots take a ferry to Liverpool on 31 October? Me and @solar76.bsky.social; we’re the idiots.

Going to a @castlesinspace.bsky.social all-dayer as they’re the parent label of Lunar Module, the label putting J’s album out in February. Exciting!

Choir auditions are looming. After last week’s concert, am very much in agreement with a colleague who said he’d never met a bit of Poulenc he didn’t like. So arrived home to this and wondering what Poulenc’s big hits were. Any recommendations?

Bit of a music gear change tonight. Fab gig, though fuck me, it was loud (yes, I sound like the 49 year old I am). @solar76.bsky.social reckoned it was the biggest number of balding 45 year old computer programmers dancing together he’s ever seen.

Beetroot update: I just weighed it. Yes, that does say 2KG. Himself has just informed me that he doesn’t particularly like beetroot. This is going to be a challenge…

Things which arrived at my house on Friday: some exciting reading from @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social and the most enormous beetroot I have ever clapped eyes on in the veg box (eggs for scale)

😂 it’s quite something! I’m not a big DM fan, but they’re one of those bands where you know more tunes than you think. And the guy behind the bar was lovely! We also found a bar called the black poodle which was good. Then there was the bar that had this at its entrance. We did not go in…

Did my last run tonight before the Great North Run on Sunday. Getting a bit nervous, but will be proud to put on my blue vest and run for @nacoauk.bsky.social

Got my latest post up; finally (both as in that it took an age to write & in the tech not fighting me. Going increasingly off the platform). It wasn’t an easy one but with Great North Run coming up, I wanted to write more about why I support @nacoauk.bsky.social

I managed to nail my ‘once a fortnight’ Substack schedule (self-imposed. Not massively working) for the first time! New post available for reading here: open.substack.com/pub/whathapp...

In ‘still not exactly nailing the target of publishing once a fortnight, but going for it erratically nonetheless’ news, I’ve written another thing, about the potency of singing. And you get some bonus Joyce Grenfell. open.substack.com/pub/whathapp...

FINALLY got around to another Substack. So much for once a fortnight…

I’m not prone to blowing my own trumpet - not even my own kazoo. But last night at work, a former regular who hasn’t been for ages came to the concert with her husband. She’s a total dote & I was so pleased to see her. Went on FB this morning to find she’d tagged me in a post that’s made me 🥲

The end of BBC Newsline tonight had me a sobbing mess. It sent me back to the Troubles, but I have enough distance from living through it that I see anew, and so profoundly, just how monumentally relentless, brutal and utterly devastating it all was. We must NEVER go back.

The latest experimental crisp purchase from the Asia Supermarket. Verdict: uncertain. There’s something about the juxtaposition of a clean greg flavour and a crisp that is a challenge.

Last night’s damage. Today’s job: shore the whole corner up so it doesn’t get worse while the storm continues…

Tonight’s dinner was a banger. The spiced beef I cured over Christmas, Spicy Roast Potatoes with Tahini and Soy from the Ottolenghi’s Flavour & Red Cabbage w. Cider Vinegar from @nigelslater.bsky.social’s Tender Vol.1. I got a whopper of a red cabbage in the veg box; will be eating it relentlessly.

Spiced beef is ready and it’s a bit of a triumph this year, if I do say so myself! Had some for lunch today on toasted soda bread with cheese, sauerkraut and a piquant, gherkin-y sauce - a sort of Irish Reuben riff, if you will… Paging @meemalee.bsky.social!

Been sent some pics of Boxing Day at my Mum’s, including this corker, which makes it look as though I’m teaching Niece 2 the actions for Agadoo. Reader, I am a delightful Aunt and would never inflict such cruelty.
