GCA is a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the blood vessels — often leading to headaches, scalp tenderness, jaw pain when chewing, and in some cases, vision loss.

Awareness saves sight.

Have definitely seen a few of these in #rheumatology as one of the painless lumpy bumpy things that we are asked about. There was a painful one though that spread under the hand flexor retinaculum. Pleased with the name change as the old one just never quite rolled off the tongue.
A right-handed man in his 50s presented with a painless, enlarging nodule destroying his nail. Biopsy confirmed a rare but locally aggressive tumor. What’s your diagnosis? #Dermatology #MedSky

From 2023, a nice discussion of retinal vein occlusions. I might always be on the lookout for #GCA but being clearer on the other options for painless vision loss is valuable.

I would always suggest that you bring in a urine sample for your SLE consultations. Lupus nephritis doesn't have to be specifically symptomatic and a urine dip result can highlight if your kidney is unhappy (blood, protein). Of course there are other tests but this is a simple one.
💜 #FactFriday: Lupus nephritis can lead to kidney failure, but better access to treatments is saving lives. Staying informed about the risks and complications of lupus is an important step toward protecting your health.
