The Public Health Agency of Canada has some fantastic syphilis resources for clinicians👇

Something is terribly wrong. Canada needs interventions to safeguard first-food systems. Infants has a right to food, and families have a right to feed.

Cleaner air isn't a personal health choice, it's something that needs the broad mandate of the state to accomplish.

But we'll never get there as a society (despite the tech being relatively simple), because we've been brainwashed by a neoliberal health ideology that's centred on individual choices.
Putting clean air infrastructure into the built environment (in schools, daycare, long term care homes, shopping centres, offices, airplanes, buses, taxis, cruise ships...) is more important than ever.

Because giving people the "choice" has led to lower vaccination rates and a refusal to mask.

This is why everything in public health seems to boil down to "raising awareness" of healthy vs unhealthy choices.

But individual awareness is meaningless without robust public health infrastructure.

Everything from air quality to food to physical activity is heavily shaped by societal factors.

We've had decades now to witness the effects of "raising awareness" on public health issues that are not individually controllable (eg: food deserts).

The pandemic should have made clear that "individualized public health" is an oxymoron.

When will we admit that this is a failed approach?

New @nejm.org report shows a rapid rise in tetM-carrying Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains in the U.S. jumping from <10% in 2020 to >30% by early 2024.
Why? Likely linked to our increased use of doxycycline both for STI treatment and DoxyPEP.

The crew of the Madleen deserves all of our love and solidarity. They knew they were on a dangerous path, but also understood the necessity of trying. The siege of Gaza must end, aid must be delivered, and the crew of the Madleen must be freed.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is beyond catastrophic.

Over 600 days of hostilities, coupled with severe restrictions on the entry and distribution of humanitarian relief, continue to inflict immense & widespread suffering on civilians.

Heartened to see @cmadocs.bsky.social dusting off its capacity for moral clarity & taking principled action.

I support this challenge.

However, given CMA’s refusal to decry the targeted destruction of Gaza’s health system & workers, I’m redirecting my 2025 annual dues to @egalecanada.bsky.social.
Everyone deserves access to health care and the support of medical professionals without interference from the government. Egale welcomes @cmadocs.bsky.social's legal action in AB challenging the constitutionality of Bill 26, which denies medically-necessary carefor gender diverse youth.

indeed, by now
everyone has heard

everyone has heard
that the pandemic is over,
the virus isn’t listening.
