This is why everything in public health seems to boil down to "raising awareness" of healthy vs unhealthy choices.

But individual awareness is meaningless without robust public health infrastructure.

Everything from air quality to food to physical activity is heavily shaped by societal factors.

We've had decades now to witness the effects of "raising awareness" on public health issues that are not individually controllable (eg: food deserts).

The pandemic should have made clear that "individualized public health" is an oxymoron.

When will we admit that this is a failed approach?

Ooh. I like how this one links AQ levels to recommended actions. I’m going to figure out how to link my purpleair sensor to the IQAir map (Yes, puppy, I can hold off on sorting that out till AFTER your walk. And I’ll need much more caffeine on board, too!)

many people drawn to health-related fields are motivated by a desire to alleviate unnecessary suffering in the world & operationalize their love for humanity in tangible ways.

But I’m not talking about a kind of Valentine’s Day sentimentality, or a kind of charity model of helping the underserved…
