I liked the part where the president suddenly sang, "Because I knew you...I have been changed for good."

If you want to see this harmful ideology set out in a single bit of pop-culture, Alec Baldwin's speech in Glengarry Glen Ross - treated as aspiration and inspiring in many online spaces - is pretty spot on: openly contemptuous of virtues (fatherhood!) that don't involve winning, ultra-competitive.

America putting most of its eggs in the generative AI basket, China going hard into green tech. When history looks back on this period, someone is going to look awfully stupid.

The thing about Trump saying it’s fine for Mamdani to call him a fascist is that he genuinely thinks all of this is kayfabe, just as he could insult Rubio or Cruz but still work with them. It’s not possible for him to imagine other people being sincere about anything.

You know those parody books whose main joke is how bad they are? Well...
It works better in a visual medium with the Darkplace tv series. In prose form it gets annoying after a while.

The Covid enquiry has concluded that the reality we all witnessed *was* the actual reality, and the version which Johnson, Cummings et al insisted was happening was a total fabrication.

It’s incredible that we have to have lengthy enquiries after the event to establish consensus reality now.

Terry Pratchett's A Stroke of the Pen is a cute short story collection- he was a solid writer pre-fame, although lacking the sophistication and depth of his later work.

The End of the World as we Know It is an uneven collection of stories.
I really liked a couple like 'Wrong Fucking Place, Wrong Fucking Time,' but you also have dreck like 'Across the Pond,' which is below the standards of most fanfiction.
Quality control wasn't great.

Working on a draft of a new book and finding that all my character names are things like 'victim 2' and 'old guy.'
Probably need to work on that before the final draft

I seriously think this is correct. Companies should be required to ensure that to the best of their ability the bots frequently identify themselves as non-human. They should not attempt to be your friend.

Douglas Adams had a more realistic view of artificial intelligence than supposed futurists like Yudkowsky .
I've been getting back into the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series after many years, and the most relatable part is how everyday objects like doors and elevators have been imbued with artificial intelligence and it just makes them obnoxious and frustrating to use and everyone hates it.
