Alec Baldwin and the company are the villains of the film, but a disturbing number of viewers buy into their 'fuck everyone and everything except closing' mentality.

If you want to see this harmful ideology set out in a single bit of pop-culture, Alec Baldwin's speech in Glengarry Glen Ross - treated as aspiration and inspiring in many online spaces - is pretty spot on: openly contemptuous of virtues (fatherhood!) that don't involve winning, ultra-competitive.

My writing productivity went up by a lot when I stopped having films on in the background

A counter-example is the Alan Partridge books. Part of the joke is that Alan is a bad writer, but there are also other jokes and set pieces, and they are a much easier read.

There are a couple of stories that read like juvenilia, and the introduction from Neil Gaiman leaves a sour taste. I hope they remove that in future editions.

‘The Quest for the Keys’ is by far the longest and the best. It wouldn’t be out of place in the first few Discworld books.

Forgot to mention 'Grace' earlier, really liked that one. Fantastic setting.
Before I stop beating the dead horse: I didn't mind The Tripps and the weird mermaid story, because at least they broke the monotony of generic apocalypse 101.

Should say the quality of stories greatly improves in the second half of the book. Some of the post-superflu stories are downright good.
Apparently it's more difficult to write about societal breakdown than it looks, so credit to King there.
