I don’t know how to explain how utterly unusual this is. People so very rarely do this.
I'm sorry, nine HUNDRED former DOJ lawyers all signed this letter opposing Emil Bove's nomination to be an appellate federal judge?

900?!

One incorrect thing in @jessicavalenti.bsky.social’s piece is that the woman has not been released on bond. She is still in jail. We are getting her out tomorrow.

“No right is safe in the new legal regime the Court creates.” –Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

One of the most chilling sentences I have ever read.

I really do think this might be the worst Supreme Court of all time, which is saying something for an institution that coexisted with slavery

These motherfuckers are even worse imo bc they are *also* out here using antebellum reasoning and pursuing antebellum goals but well post bellum!

People who want to tone police the protestors in LA should either 1. read a book or 2. watch season 2 of Andor.

I get how this is a very appealing message but the implication is that state repression is acceptable once protests cross a line. That doesn't actually help a movement for justice like the opposition to ICE and pulls attention away from the injustice the movement is opposing.
As the LAPD is reporting, the protestors in LA are being peaceful. This is not a rebellion or an invasion. There is no legal basis, including under 10 U.S. Code § 12406, for Trump to take over California's National Guard.

Trump is trying to cross the Rubicon and take this country into tyranny.

What's strange about all this (having some subject matter interest in all three of the agencies being discussed, yet not an admin law person) is that the fed is *the least* responsive to any democratic norms (not the same as "subject to presidential control"), as currently run, of the group
ROBERTS CJ (probably): Wilcox and Harris misunderstand our precedents. The agencies we *don’t like, as a matter of partisan ideology* are unconstitutional. The one we think is necessary to avoid global financial collapse is okay tho.

TIL about Reagan's impact on public housing and recalled what he did to UC tuition. The elimination of Grad PLUS loans and IBR etc. is advancing the same agenda to make higher ed white again 😭

1) This bullshit is *costing* us a ridiculous amount of money.

2) It never was about "cutting costs;" it was always about control.

…I said "THIS WAS ALWAYS ABOUT USING THE RHETORIC OF EFFICIENCY & BUDGET TO GAIN ACCESS & LAY CLAIM TO SENSITIVE DATA & WEAPONIZE IT AGAINST PEOPLE THEY DON'T LIKE."

my endorsement for any democratic presidential candidate who promises to send the entire DOGE team to prison
This is insane and everyone involved needs to be sued into oblivion and then go directly to jail

related, as I pointed out in @ballsandstrikes.org, that's just not how due process works

"people shouldn't get due process if they broke the law" ok but it's *through* due process that a judge determines whether anyone actually broke the law so where are we now

@vera.org just lost $5 million in federal funding for programs that help keep the public safe. They include a program that improves prison conditions, operations, and safety. The federal government should be supporting such initiatives, not ending them.
