Very important proposal for bus signal priority in Vancouver by Mayoral hopeful @wazaroff.bsky.social running for @onecityvan.bsky.social. Transportation equity means prioritizing transit that’s moving a LOT more people in a lot less space. That’s ironically better for EVERYONE, including drivers.
William Azaroff, who is seeking OneCity's nomination to run for Vancouver mayor, is proposing city-wide coordinated traffic signals that could cost up to $200 million. 🚦

It'd also enable extensive signal priority for #TransLink buses. #vanre #vanpoli

Fundraising drop from @onecityvan.bsky.social on IG 👀

That's 200k in four months - or 50k per month. Without any candidates locked in & fundraising like mad.

Those are ABC numbers

It blew me away when I found out that most of our traffic signals are running on manual timers.

There is SO MUCH we can unlock if we're just willing to invest and build.

With municipal elections coming up in October, it's exciting to see candidates in the region are campaigning to win the support of transit riders. There's over 1 million of us, a third of Metro Vancouverites use transit at least once weekly.
There is a way to make Vancouver buses up to 18% faster that no one is talking about.
It does not require digging tunnels.

The solution is hidden in plain sight at our intersections.

How will we measure success? We will partner with local universities to run transparent pilots and publish the results.

Vancouver is ready to move. We just need to give our buses, and our city, the green light, and I think that's a pretty bright idea.

We will fund this plan through existing reserves set aside for transportation infrastructure.

This is about applying our current resources with a level of competence you can actually feel on a Tuesday morning commute.

Expect visible improvements on major corridors within two years.

And it’s more than just improving traffic flows.

A bus with 40 people should be recognized by the system as 40 individuals.

By prioritizing these vehicles, we can cut transit times by 18% and create safer pedestrian scrambles. We can do this while maintaining overall traffic flow.

That’s why I am launching GreenLight Vancouver. We will accelerate signal-controller upgrades to finish by 2035 while reviewing intersections for real improvements to traffic flow.

This gives city staff the tools to make real-time adjustments across coordinated corridors.

Our traffic signals are the invisible brain of the city. Right now, they are on a modernization timeline that stretches to the year 2080.

Asking 21st-century transit riders to rely on mid-century hardware is why we are stuck in congestion.

Perfectly put by @adamserwer.bsky.social: the saviours of Western civilization and the defenders of its better values are the Minnesotans on the streets, versus the regime they face — and everyone now knows it

America is somehow still running the alpha build of democracy and it kinda shows
the snap election is one of those boring ass electoral system design elements that turns out to have immense political implications
It just now strikes me that the United States, unlike every other democracy in the world, has never ever ever had an early presidential election. This seems like a problem? Like you need to have an institutionalized path for designating an entire administration illegitimate and voting for a new one?

Every mayoral candidate is going to talk about how we need to fix permitting, build more, etc.

When they say that, they should be asked how they would vote on projects just like this one - and if they happen to already be in office, they should be judged by their vote.
14th and Yukon is exactly the sort of housing this city needs: a rental apartment replacing a multi-million dollar house. This is how we fight displacement and create a more affordable city.

Of course, it drew intense NIMBY opposition.

Interesting to see who was absent for this tough vote, huh?

My man is the only neoliberal who took the liberal part seriously
Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

Minneapolis Police Chief O'Hara: "The video speaks for itself. We have identified this person - 37-year-old, white male, resident of the city. The only interaction that we are aware of with law enforcement has been for traffic tickets and we believe he is a lawfully gun owner with a permit to carry"

It really feels like every transit p3 that isn’t the Canada line is Like This.

Really should be a sign to move away from the model!
Most Finch West LRT delays are due to equipment failures Metrolinx & its P3 contractor are responsible for: “There are a lot of issues there and some of them seem more fundamental than just, ‘Oh we haven’t quite got a few of the kinks worked out yet’” www.thestar.com/news/gta/tor... #onpoli #TOpoli

“Rent too high? Blame landlords, not immigrants.”

This is frustrating. The housing debate has too much racist shit, I agree.

But if you want to welcome more immigrants, you **need** to emphasize housing supply more.

Rent control and “landlords are bad” won’t turn less housing into more housing.
