it's actually not super easy to directly push back on a claim on instagram! you can post a comment, but comments don't get pushed to feeds. you can do a designed slide carousel but that is resource-intensive.

it is just not easy to do this kind of thing on IG. which is why twitter is still alive.

the only guy on the entire west coast who could pull that off is doug mccallum i'm afraid

kind of interesting that the police board presents its ask as roughly 5%, but this seems to show a 10% jump in spending from this year?

is it normal accounting practice to bake collective agreement increases into the existing budget and only present your incremental ask atop that larger number?

this is also true of the rest of the city's departments, and yet they're suffering from brutal and arbitrary budget cuts.

what do you even do with this. like, it feels pointless to point out that formal peace where everyone chills out/formal war where everyone kills each other at once wasn't actually the reality in most pre-state societies - rather the norm was constant low-grade conflict

how did it take 10 years to do this
October 2, 2025 at 10:45 PM
This isn't true. At least in Vancouver. Source: have spoken at many public meetings in favour of social and supportive housing, one of which had like 300 speakers and ended up with the then-CEO of BC Housing getting accosted by a crowd

As an act of mortification of the spirit I'll be speaking to this public hearing and here is what i plan to say.

changing zoning when you pass a plan is how i assumed things worked before i took a deep dive into land use. this just makes sense.

if you don't like density, take it to the voters.

tribune publishing owns all of the following papers (along with the flagship Chicago Tribune). its market cap is ~$600M. the american federation of teachers has a 300M annual budget.

i feel like all the public sector unions stitched together could make an acquisition happen easy

i think it's a little more nuanced than that. david coletto had a good thread on this on the other site. basically: inflation and economic pressures encourage zero-sum thinking. nationalism and the hard right are zero-sum ideologies.

From Don Davies in 2014. "The TFWP is broken and suppresses wages" is the traditional NDP position.

Pierre Poilievre has adopted it, but given that business REALLY likes it, let's see how long he holds on.

the core problem with market housing delivery is that the market-clearing price is below the cost of production. part of why this is the case is because municipalities are structurally reliant on shaking down new development to fund things like new infrastructure

This is a list of wards in TO where the local councillors recognized sixplexes. To my knowledge (I moved from TO in 2021) there’s one green, one con and one lib on there - and the balance is NDP. (The wards are also mostly represented by the ONDP provincially)
