I realise I'm just a freak, but living in a multicultural city is the best thing of all time, it's just the best possible human experience and i can not understand why anyone on earth would be like "weve got to destroy this"

My mother gave away all my Barbies soon after my grandmother (who had given me the Barbies) died and I’ve been sad about this for like 25 years and I have solved this problem by simply buying the 2 I missed the most from EBay. They weren’t even expensive.

HAPPINESS is such a delight. Stumbled on it yesterday and am hooked. Playing (free) on the PBS app.

It's a New Zealand comedy about friendships and relationships (and Fate!) set amid a local community theater that is putting on an original musical, The Trojan Horse.
Happiness | Episode 1
After a setback on Broadway, director Charlie Summers returns to his hometown.

New poll from Navigator also with an incredible result; the largest drop in support for ICE since June was actually among *Republicans*, 25% of which now say they have an unfavorable opinion of the agency.

i don't really give a shit if consultants think being anti-ICE is "good messaging" or whatever when people are actively being shot, beat, gassed and jailed.

After almost a year living in Western Pennsylvania including one of the hottest summers on record I can say that the weather is still better than it is in Texas. Don’t move to Texas for many reasons but absolutely don’t move there because the weather is nice in March.

(It’s also worth noting that the biggest organizing forces behind this stuff have been a) faith leaders and denominational networks and b) middle-aged and older women. IMHO two of the most pro-social forces in America today.)

While we’re waiting for Republicans to unveil their healthcare plan, remember this:

Health insurance didn’t start as a corporate cash grab. Before the ‘70s, giants like Blue Cross & Blue Shield were nonprofits. Then the 1973 HMO Act, signed by President Nixon, turbocharged for-profit healthcare

I just read an NPR article that said
“If you were vaccinated between 1968 and 1989, you likely received just one dose of the measles vaccine, instead of the two doses that are standard today.”

I’m covered with my 2 shots but anyone born before 1989 could benefit from another measles shot.

semi-regular reminder that ICE was only created in 2003

when you are asked to imagine a world without ICE, you're basically being asked to remember where you were when Lilo & Stitch came out

42% for abolish ICE without an iota of mainstream elected Democratic buy in, this could be over 60% if they tried even a little.
YouGov poll - In the future, would you support or oppose...

Eliminating ICE as a federal agency?
Support 42%
Oppose 45%

Reducing ICE’s size and funding

Oppose 37%

I’m exceedingly bad at booking inexpensive trips even if I set out to do so, at every stage they’re like “would you like to be uncomfortable or just moderately uncomfortable for $200 more“ and somehow I always fall for it

It's a suburban residential street in an allegedly free nation. What's inherently dangerous? Why aren't we allowed to be there?

And she didn't "cry when bad things happen." Because she was murdered.
There’s a non-zero possibility that this sort of epistemic closure is a big piece of the male crisis in America.

new, from me: Those who called for ICE’s abolition were not dewy-eyed idealists or paranoid conspiracists. They were absolutely right.

TCM star of the month is Jean Arthur so keep an eye out for some obscure greats, my favorite they’re showing that is hard to watch is The Devil and Miss Jones where Billionaire Charles Coburn goes undercover to union bust at his department store after they burn him in effigy

really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?
