Look, I know this weaponization of male academic interest is the oldest story in the book, but it’s just so, so pernicious. It’s awful to the women directly involved, but it’s also awful to *all* women in the academy, who have to live in its shadow all the time.

I don’t think there has been a Democratic president since 1900 who did not have their signature policy interfered with by the Supreme Court in some way
Bessent on tariffs: "This is one of President Trump's signature policies, and traditionally the Supreme Court does not interfere with a president's signature policy."

A good point, but also relevant is that these people have massive gaping holes of meaning in their lives; now that they’ve “won,” the only enemies left are themselves
morbidly sociologically curious about whether there's a relationship between this and the clustering of right wingers on Truth Social + exodus of libs and the left from Twitter, etc
“.. It's still overwhelmingly pro-Trump — but less relevant .. These days, MAGA can spend more time eating its own than feasting on liberals or establishment Republicans.”

In politics the most valuable thing you can have is a wedge issue to hammer your opponents with, as Gaza showed in 2024
made a similar point on the opinions podcast this week in response to the idea that epstein is a dead end. not only are actual voters interested in this but it divides the gop and puts pressure on the president. it would be political malpractice to treat it as a sideshow
The usual suspects are telling Dems that Epstein won’t win elections, get back to “affordability” and I think my head might explode. www.offmessage.net/p/force-a-re...

Kind of funny how Mnuchin’s COVID check idea is Trump’s only play now. Tariffs: COVID check. His healthcare plan? Yep, that’s a check too. Won’t be long before he gets to UBI.
Trump's Never Surrender PAC is sending out more donor appeals that float a "tariff rebate check"

I don’t think this is true tbh, seems unlikely that undocumented people are out here buying up houses
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

Kind of odd that Republicans are openly using state power to suppress the exposure of a pedophile ring involving the president and there are no calls for impeachment or resignation by Democrats

Most of my feed is sports and people complaining that the shutdown ended
the hipsters, they’re ordering double frufru mocha soy frappuccino. doesn’t anybody order a black coffee anymore

These people just do not have a theory of power and thus do not deserve it

As he cancels your flights, starves your children, and denies you the services your taxes pay for, Trump throws lavish parties for his rich friends and clients, to whom he has rented out your country
Trump threw another lavish party as his DOJ asked the Supreme Court to stop it from being forced to pay food stamps for 40 million Americans.
Yes, this is *different* from last week’s Gatsby party. www.thedailybeast.com/trump-hosts-...

The Red Shoes (1948) because it’s the most impressive use of Technicolor I’ve ever seen
What is the best movie not from this year that you’ve seen this year? Bonus points if you say why

He sounds like the guys who take being good at COD too seriously
Not the relevant takeaway here but Heggy keeps trying to sound tough by using poaster memes. Just comes off as desperate and weird.

There needs to be trials and there needs to be people sent to die in a prison cell. Consequences must fall on the people who issued the orders and those who carried them out. We must make the punishment of these people a national spectacle that will be remembered for generations.

The Beast (2024) stole its ending from Twin Peaks: The Return, so probably that. However, more originally:

Oppenheimer
Tár
Do Not Expect Too Much From
The End of the World
The Last Duel
what’s the best movie ending of the decade so far?

I don’t think so tbh. That seems like a really stupid opinion and idea on the face of it, one you might be able to dismiss out of hand unless you’re a thundering dumbass
I wonder how all the women reporters and editors at the Times feel about this headline.
November 6, 2025 at 4:40 PM
WWI was literally a family feud
one of the funniest things about all this is that when you read about the history of men and warfare it is an endless series of internecine feuds between the biggest fucking prima donnas you've ever heard of
THIS IS WHY WE ALL HATE EVOPSYCH. Can we please fucking discredit this pseudo-naturalist bullshit at last?
November 6, 2025 at 3:49 PM
I find the gap between the respect the Times receives and their open reputation for stealing work and not crediting other outlets rather bizarre
Weird that the NYT story doesn't note that the letter also mentions NBC News reporting (from more than a month earlier than its own piece) in which judges first expressed their views on this.
November 6, 2025 at 3:48 PM
They don’t even do reporting! It’s Commentary!
It’s so goofy to think of this as a news publication rather than a propaganda/marketing site
The Free Press' front page is four articles of MANDAMI PANIC, a Dick Cheney nostalgia essay, and one of the richest people in the world writing about why he gave $100 million to Bari Weiss' unaccredited anti-woke college.

One thing that’s annoying about these people - and which they try and deny - is that their project is not winning elections, it’s ideological moderation. Mamdani is a good candidate for NYC but because he is more liberal than a theoretical Democratic senator from Nebraska would be, he’s a problem

Shapiro has been genuinely pretty consistent about *overt* anti-Semitism being a red line for him, he fired Candace Owens for the same thing

Pretty interesting that immediately after losing the Democratic primary, Cuomo started talking like a Republican. Some might say it’s that exact brand of inauthentic positioning that people hate about old school Democrats!
things seem to be going great for the Cuomo campaign!

One thing that I think people should realize is that logging is the most dangerous profession in the United States, and “police officer” doesn’t crack the top ten
Data from ICE shows that none of its agents have ever been killed by an immigrant in the agency’s more than two-decade history.
How dangerous is it really to work for ICE?
According to ICE’s own data, none of its officers have been killed by an immigrant in the agency’s history.

they all write/talk like this now and it feels like a new genre: hate smut; manic, agitated vitriol that reads like it was written while feverishly masturbating to revenge fantasies
it's utterly wild how the Heritage Foundation president talks about other people
