Reading John Scalzi's The Shattering Peace and I love it. I am picky about my SF, and this book hits all of the right beats - sense of humor that doesn't overwhelm the story, characters who are interesting, and good technologies and aliens.

Yikes.

He was sent home, but how stupid is this that he would do it on front of 100k fans and television cameras. Seems like it's so normal to him that he didn't think twice

Don’t let the frogwater that’s boiling us alive let you skip over this: we murdered another country’s citizens in cold blood, and when their leader objected, we called him a drug dealer and cut off aid to his country. That’s freakish.
Petro objected to the US bombing a Columbian fishing vessel that had the emergency beacon on because they were broken down, that we subsequently bombed. One Columbian fisherman survived the attack.

This is the official US response to Petro's comments.

There are only three political positions in America today

1) I like the fascism

2) I'll acquiesce to the fascism (reasons for this one vary: cowardice, access, denial, misguidedly thinking that acquiescence is savvy, etc)

3) I oppose the fascism

The rest is details

This is amazing and brave. They tried to officially ban Pride after trying to kill it with a million pricks. The Project 2025 playbook has been field tested.
Absolutely incredible turnout for Budapest Pride! So proud of all the organizers, including some old friends, who estimate hundreds of thousands— major embarrassment to Orban
