This is such an innocuous post, and by definition, you cannot be wrong about your personal subjective tastes. But the replies…

One reason I’ve severely curtailed my time is the structure of these sites encourages going into stranger’s spaces to argue, and that entitlement is fucking creepy.

Also an amateur soap maker (well, I don’t know Witch’s credentials, maybe they’re a pro), and all modern shampoo you can buy at the drugstore are detergent based since the pH is very neutral.

Oil based soaps tend to be alkalinic, which is fine for skin but can damage your scalp and roots over time.
Baby shampoo mixed with water recommended as optimal treatment for pepper spray by an ophthalmologist, which speaking as a maker of soap & “personal care products” makes total sense. Milk products not recommended primarily due to risk of infection. Plain water is fine & much better than nothing!
The guy who makes funny doctor videos (who actually is an ophthalmologist) just made a couple on pepper spray generally and with contacts. We live in weird times.

One reason I’m on less is I see a lot of this and it’s exhausting.

I much prefer pragmatism to anger in these trying times.
One reason I am ignoring a lot of the political finger pointing going on. And I’m pretty far to the left myself.

So this is a lot of very fast cuts (because AI clips longer than a few seconds show the seams real quick), and they have that weird AI composition that’s just people looking off frame with no real purpose.

And these are the good generations. How many bad generations did it take to arrive at this?

• Tells short narrative stories about the Revolutionary War

• Uses Gen AI tools, including tech made by Google DeepMind

• Has SAG voice actors

what album are you risking your sanity for?

AI - The solution in search of a problem.

And not a very good solution either.

I heard somewhere that if 100 percent of Americans supported a piece of legislation, it has only a 30 percent chance of passing.

Likewise if 0 percent of Americans support it, it has a 30 percent chance of passing.

So there’s the answer (sort of).
I wonder, seriously, how big the "ICE should be disbanded" percentage needs to get before either a) congressional leaders get on board or b) people decide congress isn't the best way to solve the problem

You see the difference?

Stating something that might sound ridiculous but people say with sincerity, if you just post that, you’re just posting the same dismissive platitudes.

Claiming it isn’t serious doesn’t make it funny.

If you say, “Autism is my superpower. I can quickly make everyone feel creeped out by sharing random facts!” That’s a joke!

You’re taking dismissive platitudes people say uncritically and immediately contradicting it while phrasing it like you’re sharing an amazing skill all would envy!

Often someone will write something like, “Autism is my superpower,” and you’ll see replies of people rolling their eyes and saying, “Don’t they realize this was a joke?

No, because it’s just a statement people say with total sincerity.

I’ll use a Fozzie Bear gif which, while that does indicate I’m joking, it’s punctuation. It’s something extra to enhance the joke, but you can tell from my sentence structure that I told a joke. bsky.app/profile/maxi...

Tone tags by the way are helpful to convey the intended inflection, since you can’t use that in writing.

Using a tone tag is not to do all the heavy lifting, there needs to be clear clues in the structure that you’re joking. A tag is complimentary.

Pro-tip about humor as someone who uses humor a lot:

A joke needs to be obvious. In writing, it has to be clear from the way the sentence parses out that it’s a joke.

If you need to say, “This is a joke,” or add the /s tone tag, it’s a terrible joke.

Basically, I’ll probably never get to my 12k peak following I had on Twitter, and that’s fine.

It also means I’ll only be on sporadically, which is fine.

And also… wait that’s it.

It’s no secret I set a rule for myself that I would do no callouts, no drama, and no doomerism.

It turns out that leaves little to talk about.

So much microblogging I realize is built on outrage and callouts. You really notice once you make a conscious effort not to do that.
