The GOP is the party of pedophiles. Unforgivable to throw trans people under the bus on their behalf.

Conservatives are a Danger to Children
While conservatives claim to fear for kids, they adopt policies, elect leaders, and foster cultures dedicated to child abuse.

Most important thing to know about this administration is that (1) it is filled with people who do actually want to make America into Nazi Germany (but successful) and (2) it is prevented from doing so by physical limitations like state capacity, popular opposition, and what remains of federalism.

This is basically how we justified the mexican american war btw. Marched a US army into Mexico and declared war when they were shot at. One of Lincoln's first ever speaches was pointing this out in the House.
How does launching air strikes and a commando raid fall under the remit of self defense for an arrest operation

The United States has created a world order where it's rational for every state to be militaristic, insular, and authoritarian. Any pacifism or weakness and the US might destroy your government without cause. We don't get to cry dictator when the world order reacts to our violence.

I mean surely letting people complain and make conspiracies is a better outcome for trump than giving every liberal a signed letter from epatein calling Trump a pedophile they can wave in front of their conservative family at xmas.
Genuinely shocked to learn the epstein files were actually this damning. Makes you wonder why the fuck trump was playing with fire suggesting this or even signed the bill

There are two ways to get an A in Oklahoma:
(1) work hard to write a good essay that follows the rubric.
(2) tell chatgpt to write about the culture war from Trump's side

Critical to remember metoo was powerful and huge until it became a democratic party nonprofit (MeTooMovement) which, immediately after formation, became a catch and kill operation for Biden's primary campaign.
in retrospect the metoo movement did not go too far and in fact should have been given spanish inquisition levels of power and authority

The Farmer's life is objectively worse in most ways -- less free time, hard labor, high stakes, little room for error -- but it's also the opposite of the labor and social alienation most of us feel. To have your labor produce literal fruit, and to have a mutually dependent community.
I completely understand the ennui experienced by the average person in our modern age but it's very funny to be like "This sucks I wish I was a farmer in the 1400s"

I would love one theorist of "why the democratic party should go right on immigration" to 1) look at what Clinton and Obama and Biden actually did, and 2) to reckon with the fact that despite those overtures, Stephen Miller now has a goon army doing forcible deportations without due process

I'm definitely becoming a year zero guy for social media. shut it the fuck down. go back to RSS feeds and vbulletin forums. it should be more costly run a social media platform, doing so should involve more legal exposure, and it should be more difficult to access them.

The problem today isn't people questioning science, but that they don't want the answers. They assume gaps in their knowledge are universal. But scientists aren't idiots, and if you think you've found an obvious flaw in their arguments, it's usually you who have missed something.

Putting 'teacher union during covid' next to 'police unions' as examples of bad unions is bonkers. These people apparently wanted more kids and teachers to die and think opposing that was as evil as police brutality.
Solidarity with unions makes sense as long as they show solidarity with other workers. Looking into many examples, police union, teamster, teacher union during covid, ... you realize they too live in neoliberal era: they represent narrow special interests. They act as shareholders of a company.

I think a pseudo-niche political opinion that I’m developing is judge-maxing. Both the United States and the world generally need far greater number of judges. I think we need legal-abundance: an oversupplied court system able to both clear simple cases quickly and devote more time to complex ones.

Ik it's annoying and banal to point out but at some point you just gotta say that, if a Democrat dog-catcher in Vermont did even one of Trump's daily corruption scandals it would be a month-long national news story. Media likes Trump and wants to help him win.
it’s wild that this is just sort of the most openly corrupt administration of all time and they’re just allowed to do that and most media doesn’t say a word about it

"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something

This is not true, at least not unless everyone gives up. If such a thing were tried, the richest and wealthiest states in the country would secede. It's easier to imagine America ending than America having a guy with 39% approvals as dictator for life.
Based on current trends and the way congress and the Supreme Court have bent the knee, there won't be a third term. The second term will become permanent. He will declare he is protecting the nation from illegal voting, and simply not allow elections or election results.

Republicans oppose social programs because they make women and children harder to abuse.
i know we’re talking about the ACA but this was true for me and my bestfriend for ARPA. dv shelters were flush with cash for prob the first time ever. This meant i could flee with my dog and cat without a 10 month waitlist and traveling 300 miles. they covered a ~year of her and her kids rent.
My best friend was able to leave her abusive husband because the ACA made it possible for her to still get health insurance
