How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers
For decades, schools have taught children the strategies of struggling readers, using a theory about reading that cognitive scientists have repeatedly debunked. And many teachers and parents don't kno...

I went deeper into the at-bats where Luis Ortiz is accused of throwing balls on purpose.

1) These pitches didn't just compromise games. They helped flip them. Twice.

2) It's the player props, man

3) This is NOT a case where legal sports betting improved the situation slate.com/technology/2...
A Huge Scandal Is Rocking Baseball. Here’s What Needs to Change.
The indictments of two major league pitchers are just the clearest examples yet of the scourge of the prop bet.

Unserious money men for an unserious program, because guess what guys: you're going to be in the same position next year if you kick the can down the road. Reportedly, the buyout is $13 million on December 1st, and if you don't want to pay that, then take ownership of the program you helped build.
That brings me to the question of who even are Maryland boosters. (Lawyers it's got to be lots of lawyers)

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Getting your best games out from under the shadow of college football and the NFL and putting them in May/June where they have a chance to be more widely viewed and talked about is another no brainer.
A winter break from mid December to mid February would be a good fit. The league needs to be able to match international transfer windows, and missing some matches for snow would be preferable to summer heat issues.

If MLS does this, I don't think they'll play during the true depths of winter; they'd pause like some leagues in Eastern Europe do... or at least that's how I'd do it. MLS needs to go to the European calendar, I just hope they do it smartly and properly.
broad swaths of the midwest, east coast and Texas would be unspekably cold to play in if this switch happens

that's before we even mention how many fall sports MLS would be competing against for attention
You’ve probably heard that the MLS Board of Governors is meeting this week to discuss, among other things, a move to the “European” schedule. My understanding is that there’s no way that happens in 2026, but there’s a very real possibility that it could happen in 2027.

What a way to learn that there was a Division I head football coach named Mickey Mental
Weber State has parted ways with football coach Mickey Mental, who went 3-7 this season and was 13-20 (8-14 Big Sky) in three overall years.

Brent Myers (offensive line) has been named interim head coach for the season’s final two games.

In May, New Haven raised $9 million in 18 days and beat the buzzer to join D-I. Its home gym seats 867 people.

On Saturday, it hosted a Big Ten team.

Here's the story of why and how it happened.

"There's some coaches said to me, including coaches in the Big Ten, 'Are you crazy?' But yeah, I am."
How a team in its first year in Division I got a Big Ten program to play a game at its 867-seat arena
New Haven's gym has an official capacity of only 867, and on Saturday, it pulled off a coup: playing host to a Big Ten program

When you throw away a three possession fourth quarter lead, it's a total organizational failure. Some might be worse than others but there is no one player or one side to blame.
The good thing is, you can blame both offense and defense for this week's loss and you'll be correct.

Defense can't give up 20 points to end the game, while Jax offense can't have 1 net yard in the fourth.
November 9, 2025 at 10:22 PM
I think being extremely skeptical of everything the Jaguars do because they break everything they touch is a good decision, yes.
Though I put most of the blame for this loss on the defense, I’m out on Trevor for long term. Just too many mind numbing dumb things he does out there.
November 9, 2025 at 10:18 PM
Davis Mills is 6-19 as a starter and half of those wins are against the Jaguars. Notable QB's who have had 95 ish yard drives against the Jaguars include Jake Browning, Davis Mills and Chad Henne. This was the biggest blown lead in team history. Time to drink CLR cleaner spiked with soylent green.

One of the most inexcusable losses in Jaguars history for a franchise that has a list of them longer than the St. John's River. Absolute disgrace.

I do this to myself every fall weekend why exactly...
Can the Jaguars please put a game away like a normal football team (I know that they are very much not normal but still)

Every time I saw Current highlights this year, they were absolutely dismantling someone. What on earth happened today?
The Current’s biggest problem was injuries, and those injuries are going to really divert attention away from another Vlatko tournament face plant
