That's me signed up nice and early for Develop 2026.

People say you should usually book direct with the hotel, and they are of course correct, but would I be receiving this offer if I did?

I don't have a dog, so does it know something about Develop 2026 that I don't?

Things keeping me awake at 3.30am: still decompressing after 7 hour drive; weird neighbour repeatedly running washing machine spin cycles (yes, at 3.30am); gouging out part of my mouth while eating a monster munch crisp earlier.

Stay tuned for more nighttime habits of highly successful people.

Patents is my side line at the moment, but I haven't lost any of my sharpness. Otherwise why would I be joining a new client Teams call a good three days early? You just don't get that kind of commitment from ordinary Joes.

I feel like we don't talk enough about how Steam's "laissez-faire" moderation approach (with no real interest in policing itself) coupled with aggressive monetization and gamification of most of its features really make it one of the shittiest spaces to be on, practically by design.

Trump threatens new tariffs on countries opposed to Greenland takeover.

Trump continues to be Putin's best investment, and Farage continues to be Putin and Trump's eager tool, a treasonous conduit for foreign interference in British politics.

And then, as you read, spend a few minutes wondering what kind of government might want to connect the dots between eg immigration, police & surveillance, the military, and your health records.

Because that's the government we've got.

I am once again reminding you all that the UK government introduced an Online Safety Act that is effectively a porn ban on most adult porn websites, but is dithering over banning a website that is actually creating child porn.

Counterfeit Monkey is so magnificent a text adventure that I'm convinced the puzzle genre went wrong when it added graphics

One in an occasional series of 'I don't expect much from coffee machines, and boy, do I not get it'.

And don't get me started on the Costa Coffee machines in every garage in the UK. A cafe experience so premium that it can be recreated with a touchscreen, some pumps and a bag of coffee extract.

Is it just me, or has the old Creme Egg catchphrase been subtly repurposed for the new political landscape?

I don't like the woke nonsense that the new Pope is saying. We should respect the old ways, like the Pope being infallible and never questioning anything he says.

This is a bit niche, but Gordon J Key, who wrote a load of classic games for the BBC Micro and Acorn Archimedes, claimed not to play any computer games - not even his own. "I have never really looked at other programmers work unless asked to do so by my publishers" he once said.

The power socket is providing power and the temperature is close to Room, so I probably shouldn't complain.
