We might be back up...
I finally had some time to watch Al Jazeera's new documentary series on the British, French, and Spanish empires - and man let me tell you the AI slop, and resulting inaccuracies, were really disappointing to see.

Some examples:

Of course there will be weird dudes obsessed with playing Roman Empire in a post-apocalyptic hellscape...

Neither here nor there, but the ending of Netflix's Marco Polo will have to go down as Exhibit A on why you don't end a season on a cliff hanger in the streaming age.

I may have googled "how to challenge a sitting senator"
President Trump’s actions today with Venezuela raise more questions than answers. Is America going to be involved in running and stabilizing Venezuela? Today's actions raise many questions about the stability of the region and our policy towards South America.

We need to do a better job of teaching our students that the US want for control over the Americas is not some recent fever dream.

We've gone from "standardized tests clearly discriminate against marginalized groups" to "let's use that discrimination to benefit us"

God I hate this timeline so much.

We weren't really arguing about slop - you just didn't want to hear our actual arguments and tried to dismiss them and blow us off by saying we were unhappy about the slop.

Well if this doesn't hit the nail right in the head:
It’s a little embarrassing sometimes to work in a profession where the people with lots of influence are essentially extremely enthusiastic used car salesmen

Why do kids hate school and where has everyone's sense of creativity gone?

I give you Exhibit A:

Will put this on the TV to start class when we return in January.

Me: Why did this make Mr. Busch laugh at 850pm during break and startle his wife?

Class: [hopefully explaining chess to me]

Me: Great, you just provided contextualization to something.
Y’all might not appreciate it, but it took him 87 moves and 14 hours to get here

Sage advice:
Welcome to SURREAL WEEK, where calories don't count, drinking is governed by airport rules, no one cares how you're dressed, and marathoning old movies is the norm. You have until January 5th when doing absolutely fucking nothing becomes embarrassing again. Do nothing with it wisely.

If I was an AFT member I'd be demanding your resignation.
This one was such fun… so I am sharing

Thinking of all the Christmases past where we stayed up to all hours playing pinochle and listening to "Christmas" on my Grandparent's Zune.

Hoping everyone is able to create some memories this year with those most dear to them.

I honestly think the “AI college student that doesn’t read,” is quickly becoming the new “rural Ohio Diner,” in journalism:

Something passed off as being the status quo and the norm, but a minor amount of research shows how wrong that is.

Can't wait for all those ardent free-marketeers to start prattling on and on about moral hazard again like is 2008/9 all over again...

You know you're supposed to be on the side of labor right???

Because your continued attempts to push AI really show you're on the side of management.
We know students, like the rest of the world, are using AI. Teachers need to be equipped to deal w/all the issues AI creates. Our approach starts with maximizing safety & privacy and empowering educators to make educational decisions, so AI tools can benefit not harm www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-ne...
AI has become the norm for students. Teachers are playing catch-up.
At a New York City training session, educators explored how artificial intelligence could support teaching while also discussing their concerns around the technology.

Remember when all those NFT bros got pissed off when people would just CTRL C CTRL V their images?

This is even better.
It's a whole genre it's beautiful

Continue to loudly not accept this AI bullshit. It's tiring, but it's working.

As someone a little familiar with history and not usually wont to make statements of hyperbole, I can pretty confidently say there is no more manufactured conflict in our day and age than the War on Christmas™

👋👋 @firefox.com
Mozilla has a new CEO and he just announced that Firefox will evolve into a modern AI browser. This is a good example of how management doesn’t understand its own user base and why they go out of their way to install Firefox on Windows, Android, iOS and other devices blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/l...
