With several new followers: I have one foot in Classics/ancient history and another in the writing community. I teach Greek history at the Univ. of Nebraska-Omaha, answer "asks" on Tumblr as public history, and write history-inspired SFF and historical fiction. Not a prolific poster here, alas.
Mostly true. Until you get to the end, with the publisher's ads....
One of the chief virtues of the book is that it’s nearly the only remaining form of media that isn’t constantly being interrupted by ads. Between the covers is the last place on earth where no one is trying to sell you shit, a place where you can still be a human being rather than a mark.

Donald Trump:
➡️ Raises tariffs on pasta by +15%
➡️ Raises it again to +92%
➡️ TACOs to "only" +17.26% for one manufacturer, +28.98% for another, and +24.09% for eleven others

Are we expecting to get a booming domestic pasta industry out of this?

U.S. has sharply cut proposed pasta tariffs after a review, Italy says
In October, the United States said that 13 Italian pasta companies would face an extra 92% duty — on top of the regular 15% rate on most European Union imports.

This is super-important. And not just to people you know, but to random strangers at the grocery. If you like somebody's jacket or shoes or hair, say so. Costs nothing and elevates somebody else for at least a few minutes, maybe the rest of their day. :-)

At 40 minutes, this one got a bit longer than I usually aim for. But I tried to fold in, at the beginning, a general discussion of (what I think are) more inclusive ways to talk about religious belief systems. #ClassicsBlueSky #Ancientbluesky #AlexandertheGreat #BlueskyAncient

Maybe, if you're not actually in university classrooms, teaching students in the age of gAI, perhaps you might want to stop and listen when people actually in those classrooms raise concerns about what they are seeing; and not just dismiss us as luddites, or boomers, or cruel profs playing cops

We were just in Japan and maybe 30% of the people around us at any given time had masks. Then we needed masks because my husband got a bug, and they were easily available, cheap, and comfortable. It was so nice to be a place that has even a modicum of care for the others around you.

just seems important that one of the things Greene has broken with Trump on is that she thinks he's not sufficiently hateful of trans people.

Hair growth hormones? Gender affirming care.

Electrolysis or laser hair removal? Dick pills!

Gender affirming care.

Birth control? Gender affirming care. Estrogen for perimenopause or menopause? Guess what that is!

If you see this, post a random fact about yourself:
I’m not a history professor who decided to write an historical fiction novel. I’m a fiction author who did research for a novel and apparently didn’t know when to stop. Now I have a PhD in the topic. 😂

All of the money that changed hands in the Teapot Dome scandal totaled less than $10 million after adjusting for inflation, and it was considered so corrupt we still teach it in high school government classes a century later.
Corruption so pungent, it wafts right off the page:

Lobbyists who do pardon deals “say their going rate is $1 million. Pardon-seekers have offered some lobbyists close to the president success fees of as much as $6 million if they can close the deal.”

Reviews.

Reviews are free AND they are a gift to authors that can keep on giving (i.e., exposure, marketing, algo boosts, etc.)

Please, give the gift of reviews to your authors this holiday season. It really can make a difference!

Guys, Trump doesn’t care about Christians in Africa and it’s not really about the Nigerian oil.

It’s the rare earth minerals.

Nigeria has exploded in rare earth mineral production in the last couple of years. In fact, it is the number five rare earth mineral producer on the planet.

Decided to completely eliminate midterms in my Greek history class as a trial run this spring. I've added different stuff, including a more elaborate final project w/ scaffolding, a reacting-to-the-past game (done that before), journaling, and a jigsaw pedagogy week. All are more engaging, I think.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.
